i found out that if i have my phone (iphone4) in the same pants pocket with my fob key, i can't open or lock my door. If the key is right against the phone i think the phone interferes with the signals of the fob key.
Maybe that's my problem too since I keep my phone and key in my pocket, kinda make me mad when I turn the car off, close the door and the car won't respond to my keys.
Yeah I think about that quite a bit, I don't like the leather case, so I don't have one, but for the key itself, I figure if it gets too scratched up, I'll just order a new plastic housing for it.
I might order the card key though, then I don't have to carry the fob anymore.

i always carry my key fob and phone (iphone 3g) in the same pocket, and no problems.
Did you have to get it programed at Lexus? I don't know what's up with mine not responding easily, I might take it to the dealers and see if they can find out what's wrong with it.
