Fog light modification with Toyota OEM fog switch
#17
Here is the additional info on the Toyota fog switch and retrofit that I have done. I took some photos while doing the trial and error approach. For those who might be interested in DIYing, I will let the pics tell you some key info in order to make the mod work. However, do it at your own risk/your own way and I will not hold any responsibility if you damaged your car and/or yourself. Good luck

3. Indicator and back-light swap (i.e. amber and green light swap):
4. OEM harness retrofit (or on your own more creative way ):
I can't get the OEM harness to work as it only lights up passenger side fog. I think it could be due to the tapped wires that I used are 16 gauge.
5. Re-use OEM harness sleeve (optional):
For a cleaner look, use the OEM harness sleeve to cover/contain the 2 tapped wires in the engine bay and knee panel; the sleeve is long enough to cover all the way from the fuse box to the interior knee panel.

I added this switch recently as well and you really don't need the harness and can use butt connectors to save yourself some money.

^^^ was the cheapest switch that I found, really fast shipping btw and out of socal.

They also have the switch/harness combo for about $30 more.

I like the look of the OEM switches, but they are a bit pricey. I needed 3 switches for my mods (Fogs, DRLs & Nav), so I went with these that have been mentioned before. I got all 3 for the price of 1 OEM:

Nope, this mod does not need to tap wire to the **** / switch on the steering column. However, if you want the Toyota fog switch back-light to lit when you turn on the parking/head light, you need to tape to interior power resource. I tapped to the sunshade switch.

Great DIY, I wish I can do this on my SC. Been researching for the SC for quite a while.
Thanks for this DIY.
