I personally am a fan of red-outs, or IS-F tails...smoked tails remind me of the old GTO tinted covers people used to put on their Mustangs or Civics, does not fit a $45,000 Lexus...

IS F or eBay tails are the only ones I like. Although, since black is part of your theme I'd maybe get the vinyl to see if you like them. Then you can spray them if you like the smoked look.

I love the flat clear coat on taillights. I've seen the Five Axis ISF in person with its flat cleared taillights and they look awesome. It's one of those small, subtle details that makes a huge difference on the overall look of the car's rear.

not a fan with smoked tails... i think you are better off either leaving it alone, or getting the ebay/is-f tails

personally, i like the smoked look on the taillights, especially with that first pic. the red is still quite visible, which looks really good on a light colored car . javy's looks really great, too, as it's subtle but still gives a nice effect when looking at the rear. can't go wrong either way.
