I've had my light on for quite some time. I'm curious as to whether or not the airbag is in fact disabled as a result. Imo this is a safety defect that should be covered outside of warranty. The indicator i'm referring to is the red one shown on the cluster (bottom right corner)
FYI...My light is also intermittent

Just a quick update... Diagnosis confirms the wire tsb... The dealer is meeting with a claims rep next week as the car was brought in twice under warranty... and I won't be charged for diagnosis! To be continued...

I have an '06 with 126,000 miles. It is well out of any sort of warranty, however, it was brought in twice while it was under the Lexus extended "platinum" warranty and they just reset the light both times. I did verify through the Lexus website, wire harnesses are covered. I am happy at this point, as the dealer has taken the issue this far.

Latest update:
The warranty claims rep offered an $800 credit towards the $2,100 repair quote. I followed up with Lexus NA and they offered a goodwill repair. Patience pays off in the end and my takeaway from this is to make sure you document your car history well!

so this just started happening to me. Started happening intermittently and continues to do so. Taking it to my mechanic to get the code read tomorrow.
06 IS250 AWD with 77,900 miles on it so I'm out of warranty.
Which sucks because I am also having massive financial difficulties at the moment. Does anyone know what part of the harness goes bad? I am very very well versed on the electrical system of the interior of the car but I can't shell out over a grand to even buy the part. I've seen this issue on other older cars and the result was "if in an accident your airbags may not deploy".
I am more than willing to replace individual wires as a 500 ft spool of primary wire is only $20 and a lot of my time. Have literally removed everything except the dash from the car at least once and never had a problem but would take the upper shell of the dash apart too if it means saving $ I don't have.

I have the same problem, and I'm out of warranty as well.
If the light being on means that the airbags wont function in light of an accident,
isn't that not a serious safety issue? Shouldn't it be a recall instead of a TSB?

I've had this problem for the past 5 months as well. Went to one dealership and they said it would cost me $2500 to repair since they would have to remove the entire dash. I'm thinking of going to another local but more popular dealership to get my carbon build-up TSB done and hopefully have this airbag TSB done free of charge as well.

I agree. So due to a defective product...I may incur bodily harm?..... that has law suit all over it. If my code comes back I'll begin my phone calls with Lexus of Chester springs, the few times I've needed them they have been great to me. What makes something qualify as a recall?
