Default Protective clear film looks yellowish

Hey guys,

Anyone out there have any idea how I can make my hood clear plastic film look newer.

I had to have my front bumper repainted after a piece of shreded tire damaged it last summer. A new clear protective film was installed and looks great. To great.....because now you can see the defference between the new bumber film and the old hood film.

I tried some sprays with no luck. I'm about to try some rubbing compound next but not to sure if thats a very good idea.

Any and all inputs any of you all might have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and Happy Holiday to you all

The old film is affected by the weather conditions and UV radiation, thus the yellowing .
I'm afraid that the only thing you can do is getting a new film for your hood.

DO NOT try polishing compound on the film. It may do things even worse !

Thats what i thought. I knew the yellowish was from age and weather.....I was just hoping that i can buf it away. Wishful thinking.

Second thought........It does'nt look that bad. LOL

Contact whoever you got the film from, typically speaking they offer special chemicals/polishes that can help get rid of some of the yellowing. I wouldn't just try anything on it though, you want to make sure it's not going to make it worse.

agreed. contact the installer of the paint protection film... if anyone should know if its possible, they would ... maybe they will give you a loyalty discount for being a return customer should they have to re-do it

How long ago did you have it installed? It'll probably be easier to replace the film on the hood instead of trying to polish it. Like the members above have said it'll probably make it worse.

Many film companies also have warranties that last 5-10 years as well. Like I said, it's probably best to contact whoever you bought it from, I would think if they're reputable, they'll get it fixed up for you.

I purchase the vehicle new in 08. It came with the clear bra from the dealer.

I gone ahead and use POLISHING COMPOUND today. It did not do any kind of damage whats so ever. But, it also did not help much. Yes......it looks better....but one can still see a slight defference.

After a glass of scotch and soda it looks HELA good. LOL Thanks again guys.

looks like you'll have to get it re-done ... I got mine done from a place that is a certified 3m installer it's the best stuff around I did my research ... check 3m's website and see who you can go to, they have listings by location

check this link for examples from where mine was done ...

If it was 3M material, I'd speak with your dealer about the yellowing. They should take care of it for you. Other companies have similar warranties.
