Another Recall. So they are going to drain brake fluid and replace a seal.

I am at 30k and i have to do brake fluid flush according to the service guide. So, if i do recall I don't have to do it anymore and save $$$. Am i right?

Well, based on your screen name - 08IS350 - I assume you have a 2008 IS350 therefore recall does not affect you. This would only be for certain 2006 models.

The recall may indicate that if you keep with the OEM brake fluid the seal should be fine but if I remember correctly, the manual also states Dot 3 equivalent is fine to use. I could be wrong, I need to look again. I'm guessing it's possible that some of the aftermarket dot 3 doesn't contain this special polymer.

woohoo another recall. luckily, i haven't taken my car to the dealership to get any of these recall fixed yet. Hymmm maybe i should wait another year until more recalls comes out. Let see, floor mat pedal, cold engine start up tsb, valve springs, and now brake fuel line.

i just heard about this new recall on the news this morning..i have to say, this setback definitely isn't going to help toyota in re-building their image since the last recall. hopefully they'll get it taken care of quickly and as quietly as possible. i am still very much happy with my '07 is250 though.

AFAIK its free for all recalls.....
so it doesn't matter if your warranty is expired or not
usually if one did not purchase extended warranty, most of the cars in this recall have expired their warranty

I agree to a certain extent.

It says in the Owner's manual "FMVSS No.116 DOT 3 or SAE J1703 brake fluid", but my research indicates that you can meet that requirement and not have the "certain polymers" they are referring to???

IMHO they either need to be more specific on their recommendations and/or have a seal that supports a wider variety of OTC brake fluid. Having said that, I'm not a mechanic/service tech, so I'm sure you (and others within this forum) could provide more information on that.

I guess on the plus side, this is another recall that doesn't affect me. I've only been under the "shorter pedal/accelerator override" recall. Yay for late model 2008 builds (at least so far). :-)

So newbie question...if you did not purchase your vehicle from the Lexus dealer (but instead a private party etc), would you still be mailed the recall notices and how would you go about getting the recall work done?
