This plastidip stuff is interesting..I just had a thought about using this on the original all-weather floormats..For those of us who have the original ones before the redesign..my driver side is developing a small hole due to wear from my right foot..i'm thinkin i can use this stuff to fill and repair and possibly do a coat over the whole mat to make it uniform in color..any thoughts??

Sick! I'm thinking of Plasti Dipping my carbon fiber interior trim pieces.

Seriously though, props to the OP for starting a revolution. I've heard about Plasti Dip before but didn't realize how well it worked. All the DIY emblems on here look BETTER than most of the stuff out there IMO.

Can anyone confirm that it peels off just as easily after it's been on a car's paint for years? Blacking out the roof with this stuff seems like a good idea, but IMO glossy black looks a lot better. And if anyone was actually able to get the glossy "add on" I still doubt it would take a coat of wax well, so painting is still probably the best option.

Before you start masking the grille, just open the hood and tape some newspaper to the back side of the grille.....then finish masking the outer part of the grille. Then you don't have to worry about the plastidip going through grille and getting all over the radiator/engine/etc.

good advice! thanks man!

thanks for the pics H_G'S_IS! yeaaa i know removing the grille is easy for most of you.. but i really suck at handy work lol and plus i don't have even the tools to remove the nut that's attaching the grille

it's gonna rain here for the next few days.. hopefully i can get to it early next week or something
meanwhile hopefully someone will post more pics of what they've done with pasti dip so we can get more ideas!

Another possible good use for Plasti Dip: the engine cover. Not sure if the heat of the engine bay would cause issues though, particular when it comes to peeling the material off later. I was just about to have mine painted but this is a whole lot more economical, and hopefully reversible.

This thread has exploded since I last visited and people are plasti-dipping left and right. Awesome DIY think I will do my emblems as well.

However, plasti-dip has been introduced to the 2IS section in this black-out grill surround thread:

I don't think that was a good idea. According to the Plasti Dip Material Safety Data Sheet, Plasti Dip "is flammable and may be ignited by heat, sparks, flame or static electricity." It could mean the propellant but ....

Well then, maybe I'll stick with paint. Thanks for the info.

wow plastic dip craze hahah. for you guys thinking about doing it on everything and anything. it will rub off if you put it on something thats under constant rubbing. my friend did his interior on his STI, and where the seatbelt strap above his shoulder is held, has rubbed off due to the seatbelt brushing up against it everytime he draws it.
