Default Repair costs on this damage needed

Hello all

My car was recently the subject of a violent thunderstorm that resulted in this roughly 30 pound tree branch hitting it from a height of roughly 15-20 feet.

My windshield is cracked. Maybe 12 inches in length.

The part just above the windshield is all dented up

The moonroof/sunroof got shoved in a little.

Anybody with some body knowledge willing to give me an estimate on this would be awesome.
I'm glad I wasn't running around outside or anything. The damage in other neighborhoods was far worse, with entire trunks landing on cars.

Thanks all...

Sorry to hear about your car...

The windshield would have to be replaced which can anywhere between 500 - 800 dollars. They dent looks like it can be pulled. But only a body shop can give you an accurate answer and pricing.

All right. Thanks for that shadowman.

I have full coverage, so I'd like to stick with OEM windshield and anything else I may need, if possible.

Though the 1k deductible will ream me.

damn! looks like your a victim like in that commercial, Sorry to see this happen to you

Looks to me like that dent will need to be pulled and painted and your sunroof will need some work, windshield will deff be around what shadowman stated. From my recent luck, I believe your looking at over $2000 of damage. I am not an expert or know a whole lot with auto repairs but ive been in a couple situations where the damage did not look that bad but costed way more than expected.

ps. you should lower your deductible

double check your insurance coverage. collision deductible and non-collision deductible are different. Mine are $1000 for collision and $50 for non-collision. Damage caused by natural disaster should be considered non-collision. Also, if the car is park in your own driveway or street in front of your house, some owner insurance can cover the deductible from car insurance - again, due to natural disaster.

I feel your pain and I am sorry to see that happen to you. But you are luckier than me. Try 1 ton branch falling from about 50 feet.

Yeah I got out relatively lucky. Many other cars all across the boroughs had huge trees or powerlines falling on them. Busy boulevards and streets had to be shut down everywhere too. I will give Geico a call in the morning tomorrow.

If only I had moved my car back a few feet. Anyway, thanks for the advice guys. I'm planning on going through the insurance now. OEM Windshield glass only costs 600-800? I thought it was more like 1700$, or does insurance only cover for the cheaper stuff?

Sorry, pretty noob at this. Never been in an accident or had the need to contact my insurance before for a claim.

Thanks all - will update

i dono what you mean by.."only cover for the cheaper stuff", but if you mean replacing with cheap stuff? sometimes yes sometimes no. In your case most likely no.

you should bring the car to your dealer for repairs since you have insurance, they will give you a price with oem parts and i think they then report the damage cost to your insurance, not sure how it works
