Are you buying new? For 2011, Lexus is coming out with an IS350 AWD.
I have an IS350 RWD, always use dedicated snow tires in the winter, and have had little trouble, though they are very good at cleaning up the roads around here. Do a search, and you'll find lots of people in very snowy climates like upstate New York and Canada that are also doing okay.

Get the RWD 350.
AWD is for folks who don't know how to buy tires :P
Why would you add a bunch of weight and kill your mileage the 3/4 of the year you don't have snow on the ground when good snow tires on RWD work just fine?
Remember, folks drove around fine with RWD cars in the snow (and without modern traction control) for most of the last century.

If you just want a luxury car, and don't care as much about the sports part, save the $7k and get the 250. If you find yourself whisking through traffic and going WOT on your current vehicle, consider the 350 than.

yeah if you care about performance wise get the 350, but if you only care about the exterior of the car you can get the 250, just add an exhuast and it'll sound sporty as well as look sporty along with being luxury
and i agree you dont really need an awd for winter times, heck before awd everyone drove fine during these time

I recently became an owner of an IS250 AWD and enjoy it a lot. For me, I prefered AWD for the contol as it will come in handy since I am in Vancouver, BC and Seattle area, were we get the rain and snow when the time comes. Coming from a 1999 Toyota Solara V6, I notice the fuel mileage improvement going to the IS. Power wise, it is adequte (and similar to that of the Solara) for my style of driving.
If you are looking more of a performance car, then the IS350 is the vehicle to consider.

IS250 From Florida - Maryland with a stopover in Raleigh, drove in the city all day - 34.5 mpg. How fast do you want to go? Are you unlucky with speeding tickets? I am. In the end, I found I don't need to get up to speed faster than what I am doing now. I love the car and if I drive nice, it'll stay nice, and it'll be worth more when I go to sell or trade. I figure if I do get the itch to go fast, I'm going all the way and burning the tires like Back To The Future in an IS-F.
On the AWD, like trixxx519 said, everyone got around ok before it, just learn how to drive in the slippery stuff - easy does it!

One other thing to consider is the drivers around you that may not know how to drive around the slippery stuff. In my area, we get those constantly creating those accidents, and its just rain; snow on the other hand is worse which has made traffic to a stand still at times and ends up on the news!
