Glossy Black Painted Roofing, Vinyl Roofing, Shops?
Hi everyone, thinking about getting my starfire pearl 2is either painted or vinyl'ed in glossy black. i just did a research all the way back to 1 year ago on this forum. mixed feelings right now. some people say their vinyl is all swired up and dull after like 4 months. others say their vinyl looked great after 1 year. some say they removed the vinyl and it took their whole clear coat off and made their roofing yellowish. got a whole bunch of quotes for the vinyl and the best price i found was $210 with wrapping of the shark fin. then comes to paint, no downsides yet but how much would it run me around for painting the roof and fin? anyone recommend any shops and estimated prices for either methods? willing to make the drive from sf if the place is legit. let me know! Thanks!

SJ is in NorCal, so I'm a bit confused by your first sentence. Anyway, did Vince at Omega give you any recommendations? Search the NorCal regional forums for more info on where to go. I agree with Vince though, painted looks better, only real downside is cost and the fact that it's permanent.

I'm in the East Bay myself and am looking to have my vinyl ripped off and painted black any day now. I'm waiting to time it with the painting of some other parts (to hopefully get a deal doing multiple things at the same time). I'm probably going to go with Car West Auto Body in Dublin since it's a 10 minutes walk from my apartment and they do great work and have worked on my car before. However, they're really a collision repair facility and this is not their thing. Would be interested to hear about other places...

the scratching and discoloring of vinyl depends on the quality of the material and of course if your car spends a lot of time exposed to the elements.

I had a bunch of work done to my IS at my friends body shop. He molded my Wald trunk spoiler and painted my Vertex kit. He quoted me around $700 for Brociouz. Maybe you can all go in together? The body shop is called Panel Craft in Berkeley. Remember, you get what you pay for!

I've asked maybe 5 shops for price quotes. A couple were in the $700-$800 range. The one I'm probably going with is $500. I had one guy in San Jose tell me $400, but he said if I can get 4 cars together on the same day he could do it for $300-ish each. The shop was a bit shady though, with almost no Yelp reviews, and I don't have the time during the week to go down to SJ (they're not open weekends) anyway.
OP: Did Vince @ Omega mention any places? He'd probably recommend RJ's Paint Shop down the road, but they're really expensive.

Often true, but not always the case.
