Choose between two groundbreaking diesel engines. The new IS 200d has very good fuel economy of 5.1 l/100km and emits just 134 g/km of CO2. Yet it produces 110 kW of power and 340 Nm of torque to deliver responsive performance.

The IS 220d is more powerful (130 kW / 400 Nm) for quicker acceleration and a higher top speed. But it still achieves 5.5 l/100 km and only emits 144 g/km of CO2.

Both models set new standards for refined clean diesel performance. The IS 200d is more fuel economic and the IS 220d has better acceleration.

2007 Lexus IS220d Sport
I bought this car in november 2011. It's not powerful enough for me. I also have a 2007 VW Passat 2.0TFSI+intake+exhaust+remmaping=255HP. and the lexus has only 175...it's so damn slow.
Decided to see what performance upgrades can be done. and guess what? NONE) there's little information on the internet, no experience of dealing with diesel lexuses in my country.
So I started by replacing the stock exhaust.

as you can see, on the right side a new hole appeared! it's for the second muffler

second step was getting a K&N HighFlow Air Filter

to install it, had to remove the plastic engine cover

there was plenty of sand in the airbox so i had to clean it all.

overall, the car is now faster. i can't say that it's a rocket, but the improvement is evident.

next week i'm planing to install a tuning-box because you can't do a normal remmaping.

Shame there's no tune available. That diesel would pump out the torque!

I also own a 220d.
There is a good way to tune the engine and thats by installing a unichip.
I already went to the distributor of Europe and he told me I could expect something like
220+ hp.
My brother's mr spyder got an increase of 43bhp with intake header exhaust and the unichip, dyno proven.

Suspension is almost the same as the IS250. I have BC coilovers for the IS250 and the fit fine.

I'll hold judgment until I see actual results, but there are currently no chips that are able to yield results on a 2IS. You'll find the ECU cannot be tuned

They told me that the unichip would work fine on our 220d. On the dutch forum there are also members that have managed to get 207 bhp from a box called VENTURA.

The downside of this box is that it's plug and play, so they don't put it on the dyno and finetune it for your specific car. In that case the Unichip is much better.

saying and actually doing are two things. The "Ventura" is plug and play but they didn't put it on a dyno? Doesn't make any sense, and doesn't show anything other than numbers can be pulled out of a hat. i.e. the 207bhp. If they don't dyno there is no proof that there were any gains. 207 means nothing really. You can't blame me for being skeptical. Not saying it can't be done, but someone would have to invest a lot of time and money into breaking the ECU, which frankly for the aftermarket of more modern Lexus's isn't that lucrative.

The unichip is not reprogramming the lexus ECU, it's a piggyback computer.

Those already exist for the ISx50 (MAPECU3, HKS FCON, etc). They're expensive, and without adding a supercharger of little benefit (about 10 hp).

But the car we're discussing isn't an ISx50... it's a turbo diesel. completely different engine, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if a piggyback could provide reasonable gains.

Even though it's a different engine, I'd assume the engine management uses very similar tuning no?

Not even remotely.

A diesel engine doesn't operate anything like a gasoline engine.

There's no throttle plate, no spark plugs, vastly higher compression ratios... it's a totally different thing from a gasoline motor in many ways.

do you have a link to the thread in the Dutch Forum?
I assume they tested the box the first couple of times during developping, but if you are getting it installed they don't put it on the dyno anymore.
There was a belgian member who got the same piggyback but from the belgian distributor and they did put it on the dyno and he got an increase of 30bhp.

But still I think that the unichip would be better because they can finetune it to your specific car.
And there are lots more functions to mess with.
