Default Navigation Upgrade to get real-time traffic monitoring

I noticed the new Lexus Navigation systems have real-time traffic monitoring on the GPS maps. I have a 2006 IS350 and just recently upgraded my GPS maps but it doesn't show the real-time traffic. Does anyone know how to enable or get the real-time traffic monitoring on an older Navigation system?

This isn't an issue that you can solve by installing a new firmware or software. There's several pieces of hardware that you need to have this feature, and the only way you can get it is by installing a new 2010+MY navigation system, or trading in your car for a new one.

Or spend $150 on a Garmin that does realtime traffic and a ton more :P

(even better, $99 for lifetime map updates versus $300/yr for the lexus ones)

Thats interesting, in Europe Real Time Traffic is enabled with the dvd based navigation systems. It works just fine w/ my 2006 IS220d with the brand new 2011 NavDvd.

then all you have to do is attach the Garmin suction mount to your nav screen!

friction mount is a ton better.... stays in place perfectly on the flat area right above the center stack, and doesn't leave any marks behind for thieves to know you had a GPS in the car.

Plus you don't have to worry about how well it'll stick to anything in a rental when you take it on trips.
