Default HID vs halogen, afs vs non-afs, headlamp housing

Hi,
I was hoping to purchase a used set of headlamps from ebay and to cannibalize the chrome housings so I can get them black chrome plated without having to drive around without headlights..
was just wondering if the HID headlight housings were the same as the halogen ones...
and if the afs headlight housings were the same as the non-afs versions

my car has the oem HID headlights w/ afs.

thanks!
Andrew

I mean if you are only using them temporarily, just find the cheapest ones.

HID has different housing that takes different bulbs than the halogen.

AFS has the motor thing that moves left and right.

So to answer your questions, they are different.

your headlights wont work if you dont get hid-afs housing. halogen wont power HID, and vice-versa.

oh, no. what i meant was the silver portion. i just want to take that out to get it black chromed. I was wondering if i purchased a halogen headlight and took that silver portion out to get black chromed, could I later swap that piece into my oem hid headlamps.

So means, if I don't have HID's stock, I can't buy OEM HID housings and plug and play correct?

Yeah it's illegal. You won't have any turn signals.

The headlamps are dimensionally the same, and the chrome housings inside are identical. The only differences between the two headlamps are the presence of the HID components, the AFS motors for the lenses, and the corresponding wiring and harnesses. Everything else is the same.

Absolutely not. They'll bolt up but nothing will work, except maybe your turn signals and parking lights.

There's no "paint code" for black chrome. Chroming is a process which involves dipping the piece in a chroming chemical. You might be looking for a metallic paint which mimics the appearance of chrome - and for that you can use whatever paint you like.

javyLSU, yes, wait for him. but me? lol. /OT

based on javyLSU's post - and correct me if i'm wrong, headlight housings (and just the housings) are identical for oem halogen and oem HID's.
