Most of the general public don't realize the performance of the IS 350. Even my friends who are cars guys were really surprised by the performance numbers. They really expect the IS350 to be tuned for luxury and no sport.

Wow! Thanks all for helping me make this purchase easy! I posted in other forums (like MBW, Infiniti) trying to help me decide and you guys helped me make my decision final!

I will be purchasing a used 08-09 IS350 this week. Looking for Black or the Graphite color. I think I found a couple low mileage cars I like and will be going tomorrow to look at them!

I am amazed at all the performance numbers for this car! I was always thinking I wanted a BMW 335i because how fast it was, I mean the sound of a twin-turbo V6 just makes me drool, but now after driving and reading how the IS350 is just as fast, if not faster in some cases I am LITERALLY speechless. I had NO CLUE this car could compete! I absolutely love the interior of the Lexus over the BMW anyday! I love the look of the BMW, but the interior is just GROSS, outdated... period.

I am sold............. So the search is ON!

Thanks again! I am so excited!!

The IS350 is very quick and fuel-efficient considering the power.

I wanted a manual when I was shopping for a car in this class of cars. I test drove all the compatible cars and just loved the power and luxury of the IS, but the 350 only comes with an auto. The most important factor for me was reliability, so I got the IS350. After a short time (6 months) I really started to love the automatic. Now, if I had the choice of auto or manual I would get the automatic. It’s amazing how you can be almost idling around in 5th gear at very very low speeds (getting great mileage). Yet when driving aggressively the trans & rear are geared perfectly. Not to mention the lightning fast shifts.

Even ferrari doesn't offer stick in their cars anymore. That's right, ferrari. I don't understand the "fun" of having one hand tied up with a stick while trying to maneuver threw a twisty region with just your left hand.

What I personally find to be fun are paddle shifters (which the IS 350 also does not have, but still).

In terms of fun factor, it goes:

paddle shifters (auto-clutch) (this is what Ferrari offers exclusively now, it's what the LF-A has, i could go on) > automatic with these "gear limiters" that appear to be of some use, some of the time (this is what the IS350 has) > automatic with no gear limiters > stick

Automatic to me is more fun because it allows for more spirited handling/maneuvering on curves, as both of my hands are available to clutch the wheel.

However, automatic often does not put you in the gear that you want to which is the obvious downside, but the up side of having both hands free exceeds the downside of sometimes being in too high of a gear and experiencing "gear change" lag in some instances (ex. car puts you into 3rd but you really should be in 2nd, you punch it and it shifts from 3rd to 2nd)

Hell, the IS350 even has a partial solution for this - ECT power mode which tends to hold gears longer than normal mode. You accelerate hard and want to negotiate that curve while staying in the lowest gear possible? ECT Pwr will accomplish that...some of the time at least.

Nah man those aren't shifters though, those are just gear limiters. They don't actually shift the car.

Unless of course there's an entirely different version of the IS350 and IS250 that I don't know about haha.

ok yes they are gear limiters, but you can downshift them in the twisties, and if you're holding it to redline you will upshift in the twisties also, use them when you're at the limit then they 'seem' to work, if you're not at the limit you got gear limiters.

So what's the difference or pros and cons of paddle shifters vs. "Gear limiters"?
