Cleaning my HKS exhaust
Some time ago i removed my OEM HKS exhaust to clean it up a bit. Had never cleaned it in 3 years. Here are the pictures from about 8 months ago. When summer hits i will remove it again for another clean up!!
Here it is all dull and ugly.
Here i use some chrome polish on it!!
It scratches a little from all the road tar that i had to work really hard to remove.
Here its is all nice and clean!! Almost like new!
I would love for it to be louder. I actually went out for a drive with it removed, sounded like sex!! But its is the best looking exhaust IMO for the IS. So i will be keeping it for a LONG time!!

What part is the resonator?? Will effect emissions?? im in NM and we have emissions every few years i think.
Thank you
Dont remember, all i remember it was just a run of the mill brand i grabbed from Autozone. What sucked was the road tar spots. It was just tinny spots but if i buffed really hard they would come lose but then it would scratch my exhaust. I tried GOO GONE or something like that to soften them up but all it did was cloud the shine.

You can go to any muffler shop to have them cut it off and replace with regular tubbing that they should have, should cost about $50. Make sure to keep it after removal just in case for some reason you want/need to put it back (I haven't heard of anyone putting it back).
Some people complain about drone sound which personally doesn't bother me, however I don't drive long distances on the highway which is where you would notice this drone mostly.
As I understand, the resonator has nothing to do with emissions, it is used to make the exhaust quieter. I just had my first inspection done in February and passed the MA emissions test without any problem.

I just polished my F-Sport last night, looks so much better with the chrome not completely covered in soot/dirt.
Does anyone know if there's a "best" method for cleaning an exhaust? I spritzed mine down with some Maguires Ultimate Quik Detailer then removed all the loose dirt with a soft white cotton towel. Then I used Turtle Wax Wheel Polish. Seemed to do a good jobs. I'll post pics later. Just want to make sure I'm not doing harm.
