Exclamation What's the smallest size rims/wheels I can fit on 2008 IS250?

I'm looking to have an additional set of smaller wheels so i can potentially have a bigger sidewall with a different tire size. I'm picking up a set of the original OEM wheels, but was thinking of picking up a backup set just in case I end up denting those as well.

Any advice? It's a AWD 2008 IS250. 17" wheels and tires, 225/45R17.

Thanks in advance to all you folks.

I use 16" for my snow tires.
Don't know if you really want to go smaller than that

Thanks for the tip, anyone else know if a 16" wheel would fit my car (wondering if the rotors/brakes possibly might be too large to fit a smaller 16" wheel), more specifically has anyone downsized to a smaller wheel from the factory 17"?

Try a test fit. That's what the shop will tell you.

Besides snow tires use, I want to downsize to 16" wheels so I can run a higher profile tire (while keeping the overall circumference as close to factory as possible). This will somewhat help prevent damage to my alloy wheels from hitting pot holes here in NJ which seem to be everywhere. I've just found out today that I need to replace all 4 because they're all screwed up, which fortunately I have someone with a set to sell. However, if this happens again, I think i need to go with the bigger sidewall.

OR, my other option is too find out if i can fit 17" tires with more sidewall...ideally, I want more sidewall to protect my current/future OEM wheels.
