Default Oil change at 1000 miles and under carriage photos!

Okay, so Ive done several oil changes on new cars and motorcycles Ive owned at the 1000 mile mark. All have had a good amount of metal flakes in the oil, so to play safe, I decided to do it for my IS250. What I have discovered was after running a neodymium magnet in the oil flow while draining, there were maybe 2-3 tiny particles of metal...thats it! I pulled out the oil filter thinking it caught majority of the metal flakes, to my surprise, there was just a few tiny specs, nothing to write home about. This is the cleanest engine I have done an early oil change to! Oil and filter $28.50, use of oil change stall $6, peace of mind...priceless!

Moral of the story here is, if you own a Lexus, wait for the free 5000 mile oil change. Hopefully this will help ease the mind of many of CL who are thinking about doing an early oil change or those who waited too long and wondered if they should have done it early.

6 qts of castrol oil
1 oem toyota oil filter
1 knock off EBAY SST oil filter wrench (nice quality btw)

Saw a few tiny specs of metal shavings in the oil filter, but otherwise its very clean!

I hope you didn't put just 6 quarts back in..it takes a hair over 6.5 quarts to get it full again.

We here at CL would have told you to wait for 5000 miles. hehe It's not needed with these cars (or any new car for that matter). But at least you can be sure now that you've done it. Can't put a price on peace of mind.

It's not a Kawasaki, thank goodness! Every Kawasaki I pulled apart had a handful of crap in the oil pan.

I'm pretty convinced Lexus is assembling their engines in at least a class 1000 clean room. It definitely inspires confidence.

Same thing with my Yamaha FZ1 that I bought several months ago, I changed the oil at 450 miles and the oil drain pan was just filled with metal shavings! SCARY!
