Wow i'm glad nothing happened but the campaign for the steering rack replacement was for worn magnets in the rack not for shaking, but i would take to ur dealer and have them reset and reprogram the EPS and that should take care of it. I've read some bulletins on TIS ( I work for toyota) relating to this concern it's because the ecu is trying to find center on the rack and the steering angle sensor does not see it. Get it to ur dealer i'm sure it stored a DTC. Good luck man

EPS = electronic power steering

DTC = diagnostic trouble code

Just made an appointment today, bringing my car in to the dealer (Metro Lexus Toyota) in Victoria, BC Canada on thursday morning. Talked to a mechanic and he says he's never seen or heard something like this. Hope they know what they're doing.

Brought my car in this morning, and just got it back an hour ago. The mechanic didn't say much of it, except for how he's never seen anything like it. They couldn't replicate the problem so they couldn't do anything about it except calling Lexus Technical Assistance which was not open. They ran 'tests' and said everything was fine.
Nothing really I can do now except to wait and see what they can find out. Only time will tell...

Just an update of what's happened with my car so far.
After I told Lexus what happened to my car and showed them the video. They decided to change my 'Powersteering ECU?' and my steering rack. I brought my car in to get this done last week which was covered under warranty but just last night, the problem came up again. This time was slightly different... steering wheel shook violently for about 5 seconds then stopped, but the powersteering was completely out and the P/S light was on the dash. Turned off my car and turned it back on, everything was fine but this is starting to annoy me how they can't figure out what the problem is, unless they're afraid of another huge recall. Going to speak with Lexus again until they figure out what's wrong. I'll try my best to keep this updated, hopefully this hasn't happened to anybody else.

Went to speak with Lexus on Friday morning. They said they are still investigating with their 'Technical Assistant' at corporate. They also asked me to fill out a survey full of random questions such as: "Where were u when the problem occured?" "What was the weather like?" "Were you parked on a hill?" etc. Other than that, nothing really yet... they said they'll call me once they hear from corporate again.

About the HIDs though, I installed mine is 2007 September and have had no problem until 2009 Christmas eve. If HIDs are the link to the problem, wouldn't this have happened much earlier?

I'll update when I hear back from Lexus.
