Hey everyone, I've been wanting to change my grill for some time now but didn't want to purchase an aftermarket one. So last week I decided to paint the trim around the grill and ended up getting it wrapped yesterday with matte black vinyl. It turned out pretty good, has anyone tried this approach? Does it chip easy? Feed backs would be nice thanks.
Looks good! Hopefully it resists chips better than paint (my guess is that it will). Also, it might have been easier to wrap if you had completely disassembled the grill.
Looks great! I've thought about this for a while, but been to lazy / busy to get around to doing it.
Did you wrap it yourself, was it hard to heat the vinyl without distorting the finish?
I didn't wrap it myself, I took it to Singh Autosports and asked if they can wrap it, the guy never did it on an IS so he took a shot at it. It came out great, so it was pretty much experimenting with the car. It took about 30 mins.
Mine's wrapped in black vinyl too! but it's glossy black vinyl
So far so good, but I don't think I drive it enough to really have a true "test" of the material and how it endures with regular road debris/rain/etc. =/
Cool. I was gonna use vinly for my grill but I wanted my grill to look 'black chrome'' so I wrapped my grill with black tint, yes tint.. Your matte black looks good though
I bought some flat black wrap today, gonna try it when i install my blitz grill Do you know what he used to make it stick?
I think he sprayed some type of solution on the wrap, not too sure what it was (it was in a gray bottle). But the kind of wrap he was using doesn't actually stick until you start squeegeeing it. Good luck, the corners are a pain from what I witnessed.
