How can you tell if a is250 is awd or rwd?

It has a badge in the back that says 'AWD' if it is AWD.

I think all AWD IS250's come with the 17in wheels at least in the USA, sit higher, have the AWD badge. You can also check the VIN...thats all I can think of...

right side of driver cockpit is very cramped due to AWD (I believe). That is why when you buy a car mat, you have to specify if it is a AWD. Right side by your foot is a large bulge inwards.

These are the only exterior ways to tell.

Doesn't AWD only come with one size for all tires? I'm not sure 250 has bigger width rear tires.

17s on the AWD are the same front/rear. on the RWD, the rears are wider. 225/45/17 255/45/17 IIRC

It doesn't. Go to www.mats.com, and look at the floor mats--different driver's mat for RWD vs AWD.
