New Curt Trailer Hitch Installed on IS350
#62
its impossible to buy a 2" rvcr for a ISx50, not unless you buy a 1.25 to 2" adapter.
Ive always had hitches on my cars, not for towing, but using them for bike racks. Roof racks tend to cut gas mileage by 3-5 mpgs without bikes, hitch types at most maybe 1mpg with bike loaded. plus they are easier to get your bike off and less risk of dropping your fork on the roof of the car.
Im still up in the air whether I want to add a hitch to my IS250, but its not hidden like every other hitch ive owned. Not too sure if its going to kill the looks of the car with a large hitch hanging from the back.
Ive enlarged BGMs photo to show more detail, hope you dont mind.

Well I guess the one plus I can think of is that if you scrap on your way down a steep driveway you are on your hitch and not your exhaust! I've done that with my Camry a few times.

does anyone know if they make ski/snowboard racks that are hitch mounted? i'm kind of mad at myself for buying this car without taking into account that the back seats dont fold down.
this hitch seems like a much better option than having a roof rack year round...

I also purchased a Yakima roof rack to carry my windsurfer on our IS350, and the roof rack is easy to take on and off. You don't have to leave it on when you aren't using it.

I've been towing for many years/miles and the number one rule I have learned (The hard way, but have been very lucky) is to NEVER exceed the OEM recommended max towing weight limits (Including cargo) of the vehicle and the hitch, including the tongue weight. There are so-many different issues that could cause a loose of control of the trailer. It could get REAL ugly, if exceeded.

So did you not even jack the car up at all (as in maybe to the height of changing a tire with 3 wheels still on the ground)?

Nice! I've been thinking about installing the very same hitch to carry around my mountain bike (the ones on the roof seem like a huge hassle + drag, the ones that attach to the trunk scratch it up).
So did you not even jack the car up at all (as in maybe to the height of changing a tire with 3 wheels still on the ground)?
