Its' not confirmed but the 2013 GT500 5.8L supercharged V8 650hp 600lbft apparently avoids the gas guzzler tax, so if it's true then EVERYONE has some catching up to do lol

A caveat to this.
Infiniti is a luxury brand that opens itself to tuners. As for the actual Luxury aspect of the models, yes Lexus surpasses infiniti...but not by that much and ultimately Infiniti outsells Lexus every year. Thats partly because of the number of different models they produce vastly outnumbers lexus but also because their platforms offer very nice (if not lexus level) luxury and the opportunity to tune far beyond anything Lexus offers ($7500 for a 500hp S/C turn key solution for the g37/g35, )
Furthermore, Mercedes offer's 500hp cars. They don't need to provide much in the way of tuning. Even at 416 hp the isf is well below the cieling when it comes to how much power SHOULD be offered to customers .
And, to be precise AMG is to Mercedes benz like TRD is to Toyota. It IS a tuning wing where as the F marquee is actually is the name on a single car (LFA not withstanding) and F-sport is simply a package option not a performance wing.

the fact that the is350 and isf yamaha tuned v8 are naturaly aspirated is amazing. SUch reliable high performance engines is something that attracts many enthusiasts. I myself have alot of love for lexus . They perfected the 3.5l v6 with a wonderful direct injection fuel system and large power numbers all na and no forced induction needed

I'd say yes, something's wrong with your tach. Red-line is 6500. You'll hit the rev limiter if you try to go over that. I'm not sure how it works with the 250 manuals but in the auto there's no way to go over the red-line. If your needle is hitting 7000, something's wrong with the calibration.

i just checked, you're correct. i've posted before about having a high revving I4 on the next IS250, sort of like the I4 Honda uses on their TSXs but even better. that way, IS250s can be more light weight and agile and more fun to drive. face it, the IS250 buyers are not in it for the comfort and smooth of the V6, for me at least.

Here is the competition the 3rd gen IS is facing:
F30 BMW 3 series:
Cadillac ATS:
Considering the 3 series has an 8 speed ZF transmission, and GM is building their own in house 8 speed, Lexus has it's work cut out. From what I saw of the new GS powerplant, Lexus is not going to reclaim the luxury car lead from BMW in the near future, and they won't have a Tsunami to blame.
If Lexus can't come with better powertrain in it's entry level volume seller (and the 250 outsells the 350 70/30), their best strategy is to ditch the 250 and price the 350 vs the 328i and ATS 2.0.
The entry level luxury car segment is brutal. You snooze, you loose.
F30 BMW 3 series:
F30 328i - 2.0 liter inline 4 / 245 horsepower at 5000 RPMS / 258lb-ft torque at 1250 RPMs /10.0:1 compression ratio / engine code N20
F30 335i - 3.0 liter inline I6 / TwinPower-twin scroll single turbo / 306 horsepower at 5800 RPMs / 295lb-ft torque at 1200 RPMs / weight 427lbs / 10.2:1 compression ratio / engine code N55

An all-new 2.0L turbo engine debuts in the ATS, advancing a legacy of high-performance turbo engines with greater efficiency and more technology. Along with its 270 horsepower (201 kW), the 2.0T’s torque curve is broad and robust, delivering 90 percent of its peak 260 lb.-ft. of torque (353 Nm) from 1,500 rpm to 5,800 rpm – for a great feeling of immediate power at all speeds.
The ATS’s available 3.6L V-6 is the same, powerful and technologically advanced LFX-code engine introduced in the 2012 CTS. It is rated at an estimated 320 horsepower (238 kW) and 267 lb.-ft. of torque (362 Nm).

speaking of Caddi ATS, just read the recent Motortrend, it says it benchmarked itself against E46 BMWs. super lightweight, 50/50 balance and agile handling. but who am i kidding, i would never buy a GM product except the Escalade for family use.
