So I have a crystal white 06 350, tan interior, and the lighter grey factory wheels. The dark grey, or granite grey factory wheels look a million times better than the lighter grey ones. Should I powder coat mine to look black, granite grey, charcoal grey...etc? Are there any cons to powder coating?

The only con to powder coating wheels is if you chip them you can't easily touch them up. Of course chipping is a lot harder to do, but I've seen it happen before.

IMO I say no.. It's your money so powdercoat away if you decide.
It's more of a personal decision..

I was thinking of powdercoating but spoke to a few places that fixes up wheels and they don't recommend it. I forget what the reasoning was but it is much cheaper to powdercoat. However they recommend painting the wheels.

I was going to have my wheels painted black but then spoke with the tire shop that I go to and he recommends powdercoating over paint because powdercoating is stronger than paint. he told me when you mount the tires on the painted wheel the paint is easier to chip. so here's my stocks

and here's my 20's. the stocks I painted first and they do start to chip even from daily use due to road debris. but my 20's are powdercoated and I am really happy with them..

Id rather save for a new set of rims. If not stay stock or trade somebody. Its all up to you at the end of the day though.

powdercoating is legit..but don't pay more than 150-175$/wheel sum shops are nuts! haha luckily the guy im gonna be headin to in a few weeks is legit n is doin 100$/wheel

personally, on multi-piece wheels i say powdercoat the centers and paint the lips, this allows for easy touch-ups.

for 1pc, stretched tires get paint, fatty tires get PC. even then, i'd not do it on a set of OEM wheels, just never really looks right imho.

if you are going for temporary and dont mind dings here and there, go with the paint. and do it yourself! it is easy! just time consuming. but powercoating it takes a experienced person to do it with the right tools so it'll cost you a ton more. but i realized that when you do it right, yourself. people go "woah, you did it yourself, looks great" and i'm like hell yeah...

I think it will look good. I like the style of the stock rims and they look much better in a darker color. I had mine done in black chrome.. honestly I wish I had powder coated them instead.

However, if you don't want to drop cash on a nice set of rims, this is a great alternative to get a different look... I say do it.

Oh, and as far as paint vs powder coat, I'd say go powder coat for sure. The paint will not hold up and over time you'll wish you spent the $$ for powder coating. Also, if you decide to ever sell them later on, it's much easier to sell powder coated wheels than painted ones.

got my 20's powdercoated for $200 for all four wheels. And for real powdercaoting is way better than painting. If you are on a budget I would say do this but if you can wait I would save the money and buy some wheels that you realy want in the future and do it right first time around. GL. no matter what you do its always a step up from stock no matter how small the mod.
