Default DIY Changing Stock HID Bulbs

MODERATOR NOTE: There are some very useful installation diagrams in post #47 of this thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/7002140-post47.html

Seen a few threads popping up about changing the stock HID bulbs and I don't think there's an actual thread with pics on doing it. Therefore, I'm going to try and tackle it

Passenger Side

First, start with removing the engine covers. You can either push the clips in or use a flat head and pop them out like I did.

Next, unclip the MAF sensor wire. Then, just pull out the harness from the airbox. There are two spots, where that c thing is and a clip near the bottom.

Now, remove the snorkel. Use the flathead method earlier and remove the clip on the left. 10mm socket on the right. Gently pull to the right and pull out.

Untighten the band holding the airbox using a phillips screwdriver. The airbox is held by two 10mm bolts, one in the upper left corner of box and one at the bottom. You might need a really a long extension to get to the bottom one.

After you have removed those bolts, just pick it up and remove it.

You'll immediately see the side dust cover with the yellow warning sticker. Use your fingers and pull the retaining bar clamps towards you and remove the cover.

Then, you'll see the plug. Turn it counter-clockwise and pull the plug out.

There will a top and bottom clamp holding the bulb in. Top one, push in and down. Bottom one, push in and pull up.

Take out the bulb and swap.

When you put the bulb back in, make sure the bulb lines up with the notches. You'll feel it sit level and of course the wire on the bulb is facing the back of the car. Be sure that the plug is fully pushed in before turning it to lock.

Driver Side

Just have to remove the washer fluid nozzle. It's held down by a 10mm small bolt. If it's your first time removing it, it might be a little snug but just pull it out with a little more force.

Like the other side, cover held by bar clamp, remove and yeah you know the drill

When the plugs are secure to the bulb. Turn it on before putting it back together. Then put everything back in reverse order. Another note, on the bottom of the airbox, there's a peg thing. Make sure it goes into the hole or it won't fit correctly. That's it and you're done!

Awesome DIY. Should be stickied. When taking very close pictures, be sure to select a macro mode on your camera so that it doesn't come out as blurry.

Nice DIY

But one thing. Ok I don't know the technical term but this is what I'm talking about (the white stick connector part)

You said that it should be pointing to the back of the car. When I put mine in, this white stick is pointing up. The bulb is properly in place and connection is tight.

Did I put it in wrong or it doesn't matter?

I think you were referring to pointing the stick like this (where it's on the side)

A well-written DIY, this should be in the FAQs.

iskcon,
that is the bulb's return wire.
He is saying that it should be pointed..downwards (? backwards ?) so that it doesn't get in the way of the light.
I believe there is only one way to get it in though, based on the bulb's tabs which only allow it to go in one way. If inserted correctly, the bulbs optics will be correctly aligned.

ELL_Y pretty much explained it. But yes, the return wire should be on it's side like that. Where the glass of the bulb is facing forward (towards the projector lens). And the wire will be facing the rear of the car anyways.

Awesome Post bro...I never realized all that stuff came out on the drivers side...I've been squeezing my arm in between all that crap.

Anyways i compiled all your pictures and directions into a PDF...mostly for my own use (lots of times the pictures go missing from these threads)

If anyone wants that let me know.

Wait quick question i think you have the driver side and the passanger side reversed...unless the 250's and 350's are different.
