Default Bad Gas!

I randomly filled up at a Citgo station here in Houston because I was heading to a wedding and was running low. After the wedding, my car would barely start and jerked like hell on the highway. i took it to the dealer and the said it was definitely the gas. They say it will run around $400 to clean everything out. Does this sound reasonable, and how do I approach the gas station about covering the charges?

Do you have an IS250 or 350? dont criminals syphon gas all the time? Cant be that hard? IMO, just do that to your car for about 10 gallons or so. Then fill the rest with Premium

You probably used E85, one of my sisters made the same mistake with my TSX; just siphon it out and put in whatever you use.

For what it's worth. There is a rating for gasoline known as Top Tier Detergent Gasoline. To qualify, the gasoline needs to meet a level of detergent additives beyond that which the EPA requires. Informative web site and the retailers rated as selling Top Tier Detergent Gasoline here:

Just put in a tank of Premium from a good brand gas station or if you have Shell by you use there top of the line gas which is above your standard Premium. I learned years back never use Citgo gas. I did years back while on my honeymoon I got the car started in the morning backed out of my parking space stopped put the car in drive and it stalled out. I wound up under the hood trying to free the carburetor up due to extensive gum in it. Keep in mind I closed a parking lot where I stayed for about ten minutes till I got the car running again.

Shell, Chevron or 76 are the only brands I ever use.

I used to be a faithful Chevron or 76 gas consumer. Then when prices started to skyrocket, I would go for the cheapest I could find which in my area was a Quik Trip gas station. I'm glad to see that QT is on the list of "Top Tier" Retailers!!!

The guy probably got contaminated gas.

Using a certain brand won't really help you avoid that.

-all- gas sold in the US is required to meet minimum standards that will avoid the issues this guy is having. But if a particular station gets crap in their underground tanks no amount of marketing hype about the "tier" of that brands gas will help you.

(and if he put E85 or something in there, again, the marketing brochure for the brand wouldn't have helped him).

Before you spend that money, I would try a can of Dry Gas and see if it gets better. The Sunoco station by my house (which I've stopped using) would occasionally leave me running rough, and dry gas would fix it every time. They usually even carry it at the gas station.
