my auto headlights aren't working and everything is completely stock. is there a way i can fix this myself before having to bring it back to the dealer?

my car has been in and out of the dealer 5 or 6 times since last sept for various issues/bulletins and i just got it back on saturday after 21 days of sitting at the dealer waiting for a back ordered knee bag sensor harness to come in. it's becoming very tiresome going back and forth to the dealer all the time.

i'm assuming i'll have to take it back to the dealer since this problem happened right after i got it back from them.

any input is appreciated or as to why this could have happened.

how do you know that it's not working... unless you're really observant and very very sensitive to light movement at night.... it's not that difficult.. but yeah... could be the sensors.... might wanna ask them to check it out

I think this has got to be a dealer only fix. You can't even adjust the sensitivity w/o the dealer (you need to do it as an LPS).

when i backed out early this morning in the pitch black dark. i'll just bring her in, thanks for the reply

You have to be going above 7 or 8 MPH for them to move, IIRC. Also, is it possible the dealer disabled them via the dash switch? I think the car has to be motionless to access the setting.

All true, but if the dealer did that, the IP would display a light that says "AFS OFF".

But--I understood the OP to be about the auto on/off feature, not the AFS, which was another recent thread.

ok, yea, i'm talking about the lights turning on automatically when it gets dark, not the AFS

np, i ended up taking it in yesterday. btw, where's the sensor located for that?

For AFS? I'm sure it takes readings from the speed sensor and the steering angle sensor. I'm hesitant to venture a guess where the steering sensor is because I havent taken an IS apart yet.

not the AFS, the sensor for when it gets dark the headlights automatically turn on, whatever that's called

It's at the base of the windshield on the passenger side of the car.

The sensor is right above the dash on the passenger side next to the windshield vent. Its like this small black dome lookin thing.

turns out, all they had to do was re-connect the AT auto headlight connector which doesn't require pulling the dash.
