IS350 differential fluid change DIY

Thanks for the great write-up.
I was ready to do it with my next oil change but I was told by my service department it isn't necessary. I'm holding off I don't want to void any possible warranty claims.

^ Much like Amsoil, I am sure it is more about common availability than dislike.
If I didn't have to hop through flaming hoops to get Amsoil locally, I'd probably have used that (Amsoil SVG).

... in Canada.
In the US manual you -never- change it.
You can view scheduled maintance for US vehicles here:
http://www.lexus.com/models/IS/servi...intenance.html
Just click on the PDF on the right
I'm curious how they change the transmission fluid every 96,000 km too, since it's physically impossible to change on the automatic 2IS and AFAIK Canada gets the same transmission the US cars do. The US manual is pretty explicit about never changing it too.
"The transfer case/ transmission and transmission fluid are a completely sealed unit. Therefore, periodic checks and replacements of the transmission fluid are not required and there is no dipstick on the transmission"

Here are my picture contributions...
As I mentioned last week, my dual exhaust was sorta in the way.
But I improvised and used a funnel to route the oil away from the exhaust.
For the record I drained & refilled with arround 26K miles on the clock and will probably do it again around 60k miles...
Enjoy

How was it filling with the stop spill tube from the bottle? I can do that on a few of my other vehicles, but the IS, and my wife's Ridgeline really need the pump IMHO

everyone is correct in assuming that you need to change the fluid every 15K-30K miles of course depending on how you use/drive your car. However, the type of fluid that everyone is using is different from what All-data says? All data says to use hypoid api gl-5 SAE 80W or SAE 80W-90. So why is everyone using SAE75W???? Can someone double check/confirm this?

Glad you dropped in here....
See my problem is that there is nothing anywhere that discusses servicing the diffo in the "Lexus world" of service intervals for the 2IS RWD
It just says inspect, inspect, inspect, etc. etc..
Well I'm just not feelin it .!.
I think the manual states for 80/90 diffo fluid and 1.42 qts
So now I ask you these questions:
1) What kind of "long life" fluid comes from the factory in the 2IS diffo??
2) Replacing it every 30k miles with a "good" syntethic gear oil should be OK. right??
3) Which one of those above codes applies to an IS350 US Spec Diffo??
and
4) Do YOU plan on every changing out the diffo fluid in your F ??
Thanks

I could have removed the exhaust bolts and created more room, but I was lazy and improvised.
The tube work good.. I did remove one of the under braces.. 2 easy bolts.. It gave me more bottle room. I'm sure the pump is easier.

Okay, so is the consensus that I shouldn't worry with changing the differential fluid in my '08 IS350 with 16k miles? I don't have my service manual handy, but the dealer *said* it's a factory scheduled service and not a dealer preferred service.
