Yes, and I commented as such in an earlier reply. I expect that would be the case. Of course, the same is true for most synthetic engine oil changes as well. I'm still changing it on my terms. Let's just agree to revile me for contributing to environmental degradation and move on

I did mine last night...

Cost was approx. $40 for the Royal Purple oil & plug gaskets and just had to buy the 10mm allen socket for $4.
You get to use the remaining 1/2 qt the next time you drain and refill.

Took some pics from different angels and will put them up tonight as well..

The oil wasn't too dark, but I am glad I changed it..
This thread gave me some more motivation.. LoL

My drain plug had a bit more on it than the one pictured.

Also, it was just a bit trickier to drain on my car, since I have dual exhaust piping, but I too used a funnel to route the fluid downward and away from the exhaust.

I will most likely service the rear again with the RP Synthetic in about 30k miles..

I think this one would be the same as the oil change issue, some people would like to have it done sooner and some owners would like to stretch it to max out the service life of the oil.

I would definitely would not mind spending a little extra to get the piece of mind and getting the gunk out of the plug.....

My dealer has a top-notch service department but it comes with a top notch price too. Unless I'm mistaken, they call for a differential fluid change at 15k miles. I'm waiting on a call back to confirm. I believe at 15k they change your cabin air filter(s), change differential fluid, and change the oil. I might just do all of this myself and save $400 something bucks.

Dealers often suggest services that the car mfg does not.

Apparently... or it might be 100K miles..

I would like to know what kind of Gear Oil is in there from the factory..

If its just basic 80/90 gear oil with some kind of additive, then Lexus feels 100k miles is ok... !!??

I'm just NOT OK with that and putting synthetic in there every 30k miles makes me feel much better..

I think in the service intervals, it states to "inspect diffo fluid".. LoL

Hmmm....I didn't know about this. I told the dealer not to change mine at my last service. I think it should be okay for a while longer then.

Yeah, I am pretty sure the little 'service manual' that comes in your binder shows every 15K with 'differential fluid'. I suspect that is ref to the IS250, but it is misleading.

For my part, I'll take the grape juice swirling about in my diff and be happy

For example with my 2001 IS300, I serviced my transmission & diffo fluid every 15k miles..
I then moved to the Royal Purple to every 30k miles for my diffo, which was equipped with a Torsen LSD.

I know they put long life transmisson fluid in these new transmissions..
There isn't even a dipstick to check the levels!!
