I heard you can tell what color the is350 is by the vin. is this true? if so what color would this vin indicate?

its not directly on the vin.. open ur drivers side door, its on a sticker in the lower part with vin and ur cars info it should say it right there.. thats where i found mine..

You can't tell from the VIN. However, there is a plate located below the sill on the right side of the driver's entrance. The plate contains the VIN, month and year manufactured and etc. There is also a bar code on it. The first line under the bar code starts off with C/TR (Color & Trim). The first 3 digit code is the color code for your vehicle. My Wife's ES is 1G1, Tungsten Pearl. Mine is 1F2, Mercury Metallic.

Ok here is the deal... u can find out the color by the vin... goto lexus.com and goto the owners section.... register as a new user and add a new car to your "garage", they will ask u for the vin number. If you enter it... It will say what car you have and the color!

That would be Lexus looking up the VIN and the history they have on it. There is no way for someone without that history to find the color without the color code. Of all the alphas and numerics in the VIN, none relate to exterior color or interior material or color. Also, nothing in the VIN tells you what options you have on your vehicle. But, again, Lexus can, with it's history file.

^^Not all true. You can look up the VIN and it will tell you anything about the car you want to know, including all factory options, even dealer invoice. Here's the VIN info for the car listed by the OP. No history, just VIN data.
BTW, notice the color code; 077.

Of course what I said is true. You're looking at a Lexus build history file for a particular VIN. It will give you the complete build information for a particular vehicle. However, the OP wanted to know the color of the car he was interested in buying. The color code on the door threshold is the way to find that out. Now, with that being said, the source you have for looking up the VIN history is an excellent find. Would you like to share?

^^ LOL! Actually, there's a difference between service history, and VIN data. For risk of violating someones personal information, I won't post what the vehicle history report looks like. This information comes off of Dealer Daily, a proprietary web site for Lexus/Toyota dealers. I'm not sure if this info is available to TIS subscribers.

I never said service history, I said build history. There is a difference. BTW, I knew you were accessing Lexus employee only site, I've seen it at my dealer's, but I don't have access to it. I know what the vehicle history report looks like, I have one for both my wife's and my cars. This report keeps track of a VIN up until it's sold. You get ship date, name of the boat it shipped on as well as the POE. Back to the OPs question, I think I answered it.
