Unhappy Windshield Crack from the Inside

So this is a bit strange, but on Sat. late a couple of friends were headed out to another club. The temp was 50 degrees out. He had put his foot on top of the dash and placed his foot against the windshield and it just cracked. I couldn't believe my eyes. It wasn't like he was pushing hard at all. Do you think it was because of the weather? The windshield was in perfect condition prior to the incident.

Is it worth replacing it with OEM or Non OEM?

ALL windshields are very very easily cracked from the inside. They're designed to withstand damage from the OUTSIDE, making the inside part prone to damage. Your friend is a jackass by the way..I would NEVER let someone do that to my car. It already gets me going when they scuff their shoes on the interior on the way out, if there was a footprint on my windshield I'd be furious. If you're paying for the windshield just get it done w/ an aftermarket glass..if your friend is paying take it to Longo Lexus's collision center and get it done.

Wow I would think most people would know better than to put their feet on other people's dash even if they are close friend, unless they know you are cool with it. If your friend is paying just go for OEM, if you are you might consider an aftermarket.

it happened to my friend a year ago
he barely touched the windshield from inside and that thing just cracked

he paid nearly $1400 at the STEALER to get this replaced..of course it was OEM
you should take this to the dealer and get it cover under warranty
because the manager SWEARED that it's nearly impossible for our windshield to crack from INSIDE

the only reason why my friend couldn't get this fix under warranty was because he didn't take it immediately..by the time he took his car for repair, the crack was expanded to the point where you could see and feel the crack from outside

So i have taken it in to Vista Lexus this morning. I had explained the situation and my concern that the glass would just crack with such little pressure. The glass has no chips on the out side or the inside. The service manager Steve Schwartz was trying to convince me that there was a chip. He could not produce a chip in the inside or the outside of the crack. He was not going to cover it under the warranty because he had never heard of this before. He directed me to call the 1-800 number. I have made a claim with Lexus Corp and they will give me a call in 2 days. I will keep you posted.

It easily cracks because of accidents right, so if you fly out the windshield its not that bad??

Someone educate me

That's kinda weak don't you think? A simple touch of a warm foot can just crack the glass like that? Doesn't make much sense to me.

its called something like a temp inversion(?), go run a glass under hot water for a little bit then pour in some ice cold water... you'll see what happens.
