I hear a noise coming from behind the steering wheel/dash. It happens every time I shut the car off and open the door. It only happens once you open a door, drivers or passengers. It sounds like a motor of sorts. I do believe it to be normal. Just wondering if anyone knows what it is.

Its the tilt away motor in the steering wheel. I had the feature disable and it still makes that sound when I start and shut off the car.

I think that maybe the sound you are hearing!

is it the same sound it makes right after you hit the start button and right before the car starts?

like "merrrr" then a split second later, the engine starts? that noise?

i think that sound comes behind the steering wheel. due to the smart key, to recognize that its ready to be re-started again...IMO...but i know its NORMAL

Is the steering lock, I dont have the auto tilt steering wheel and it does that, It just locks your steering wheel in place when you open the door and get out.

That's different. The steering wheel lock doesn't trigger till the door opens.

Wow! There is a motor that triggers the steering wheel lock. I never knew that. Learn something new!

the 08's and probably newer have a less rough sound. all the 06's i get into sound like they are drilling bone! i wonder if they'll have a TSB?? heheh! wishful thinking.

I'm guessing that it's the motors for the climate control system. It's most likely shutting off the vents to prevent dust and debris from coming into the car.

But that might be wishful thinking of well-designed technology...

It is most definitly the wheel lock motor. I played w/ it a bit and the wheel locks as the motor runs.
