Default 08 IS250, noise coming from behind the steering wheel

i have this really annoying noise, that started off small.
it used to be whenever you go over a bump youll hear this noise (noise sounds like take a juice box straw wrapper and crunch it up.. that kinda noise), now everytime you drive it youll hear it for sure n its louder

now everytime i turn the steering wheel youll hear it, its like something rubbing
its behind the steering wheel, but infront of the steering column sort of
any ideas?

I don't think its normal. If its bothering you and its not something obvious (like a stuck object back there somewhere) just bring it in to the dealer.

i have the same noise. in my car its coming from the part of the dash thats directly on top of the plastic trim around the instrument cluster almost directly over the tach. every time i press down on that part it sounds like i'm squeezing styrofoam. while driving it sounds like its buzzing/squeaking. might be the same issue you are experiencing.

That's due to the heat, it makes the dashboard kinda warp out of the plastic under, I got this fixed at the dealership, just tell them you want it insulated and it will fix the problem. I remember when I had it, it sounded like dry leafs scraping paint, like a metal sponge, it sounded like too many annoying things lol. Every time I went over
a bump or any hard turn it would make this cringing noise, and even
more notable in the fwy. It's mileage based & heat based, I had
mine arrive around 10k and what also added to that factor was that
my car was under the sun all day every day, it takes a toll on the
dash, I decided to buy the sunshield guard cover for my front wind
shield. Take it to the dealership, they'll fix it under warranty, you'll
be happy you did, you'll be relaxed.

Note:
When you do take your car in have the service adviser stand next
to you and push the dash so it makes the squeaky sound, tell him
you want it insulated.

My next thing to get fixed is the glove box rattle, it needs insulation as well.

And also my driver seat has that annoying squeak.

thats weird, its the exact opposite for me. i've used the sunshield since i got the car. my car will make that noise when its cold, but once its warmed up that noise goes away. regardless, its going to the dealer for a fix in december. i also need to get my seat squeak fixed. i also had the dash rattle, but i diy'd that with a 1/4" fuel hose

Hm then it could be mileage based, because like the seat squeak it shows up later in the life of the car. Just tell them to insulate your entire dash lol, that way nothing shows up ever again lol, I really need to get my glove box rattle fixed, its so annoying it sounds like a door stop spring getting kicked, only sometimes though.

I had a similar noise and took it to the dealer. After a short test drive, the technician heard it as well on uneven road surface. Recommend the shop to take the dash apart and reinstall the clip on the dash... They later found out a crack on the dash glass. So they replaced both the dash glass and the clips that mounts the glass. Good luck.

I have the same noise coming out from the dash as well. It sounds like styrofoam and occurs when it is cold.

Question: Will the dealer have to take the whole dash out to fix it? Anybody get it fixed? Did they charge for labor?

You got it, it is a felt padding that is part of the TSIB "Noise it" that seems to work wonders. The 06-07 GS has this issue as well.

They take out the dash and insulate it, I had it done a while ago and everything is fine, no new noises everything came out great. It's covered by warranty so it's free.
