Post Blackstone oil analysis from my last oil change

Sent my oil from my last oil change to Blackstone Labs for an oil analysis to see how my engine is wearing and how well the oil is standing up. Everything looks good, per Blackstone I could've extended another 2000 miles

How long did you have the oil in the car? With the amount I'm driving, I normally don't change my oil until 1 year for a 5,000 mile run.

It was in my car about a year and a little over 5000 miles. I last changed my oil around when the pandemic first started. I did a few long distance high speed trips, so the oil did get a beating

I had always wonder if the 6 months in the "6 months or 5,000 miles whichever comes first" schedule is legit or not. Now, I know lol

Nope lol. As you can see from the report, oil still has more mileage left. Modern synthetic oil can go much longer. Most of the viscosity break down is due to fuel dilution as my work commute is about 15 minutes each way

When I was daily driving my 2IS, I was on a 10k mile interval using Mobil 1 full syn. Now I've started seeing small oil leaks and with the 2IS being a garage-queen due to COVID, I've lowered the internals to 8k. Not even over 150k miles yet on my '06. LOL!

For my type of driving, it seems 7K is the sweet spot. My daily commute is less than 7 miles (6.7 miles exactly according to that Google stalker LOL), no freeway driving, with 2 or 3 trips to SoCal (386 miles each way with some change). When I had to drop my son off to school before the pandemic it was double with freeway driving...God that seems so long ago.

If my commute was more like my wife's where she has to drive in lots of traffic (30 miles a day), I would probably park my IS and get an EV. The only maintenance we have to perform is battery inspection and tire rotation every 7500 miles. Plug her in at night and she's fully charged in the morning. The cost of her commute before was about $200 a month in gas, now it's more like $40 a month in electricity. No oil/trans/engine services, no leaks, oil dilution issues to worry about.

OK, back on topic!

I change the oil in all my rarely driven “toys”once a year. Cheap insurance and peace of mind.

What oil manufacturer was the oil analysis based on (Pennzoil Ultimate 5W 30 etc.)?

The exact same V8 engine in Toyota vehicles for the rest of the world recommends heavier weight ... so I use 5w-30 Mobile-1 Extended Performance. Unless living in a polar climate ... 0w-20 is too thin IMHO. Replace the plastic oil filter housing with an aluminum housing ... many posts in this subject.
