What else can you use if you don't have the tools? Is there a certain size of small screwdriver that can be used instead?

I bought my car pre-owned.

Any one have any news about the new 2013 disc that came out this month?

I believe it's version 13.1 now

Is it worth upgrading to?

I also have the same question. I received a notice about the upgrade for $169, but do I really have to go to the dealer for them to do it?

Just do it yourself, it takes about 10 minutes. In my experience there is very little change from version to version unless you live in a rapidly changing area.

How do I go about doing it myself? Do I go to the dealer and pay for the disc?

You can buy the disc from the dealer. I am going to wait.
I recently bought 2007 IS250. It had version 6.1. I did not want to jump on the 13.1 right away, just in case it has bugs. So I borrowed a 12.1 from someone and made a copy. I upgraded to 12.1 last night. Everything works fine and the annoying "I agree" screen is gone.

I did not use any plying tool or suction cup to pull the DVD panel out. I just pushed the pin really hard through the pin hole, at the angle described in the manual. (The pin that was in a small pocket in the tool zipper case). It popped out.

Just updated to v12.1 as well. My '08 was still running the factory disc (car purchased back in May). Took me two tries when burning the disc (book type wasn't set to DVD-ROM by default) but everything loaded fine on the second attempt. The 10-mile radius around my home was already well mapped, but I've noticed an increase in detail/labeling (golf courses, parks, retail, etc).

My first mod, I suppose

I've purchased the update map DVD and it's on its way.
IS there anyone in the DFW area where I can borrow the tool kits used to remove the front plate?
Bought the car pre-owned and I do not have the tool kit.

^Found the tool kit hidden in the pouch located in the middle of the tool bag.
Got a new dvd disc including the latest 2016 maps, installed without a hitch.
I now have all the latest roads in the DFW area.
Very happy indeed.

Concur on both.
"I agree" is gone. Thank you very much!
Pushing the provided pins strong enough will pop open the front panel.

Here is a great Youtube Video on the installation. I used paper clips for the two holes and you have to push kind of hard.

Bought both East and West 2016 Maps for $12 on Ebay. Worked like a charm.

^Wanna know why you have to buy both East & West discs.
Would either one but not both suffice for entire N. America?
