I've been debating if I should go ahead and Trade in my 2008 IS250 6mt for an 2007 auto with navi. There was a change of plans and I'm going to be commuting to work(100 mile round trip). I think with the 6mt I'm gonna be tired before I even get to work. It's just a convenience factor because now I know I'm gonna be battling traffic everyday. Plus, the Desert Sage is so funky I like it.


Any comments, opinions?

My car:
Obsidian Black2008 IS250 6MT, 18" wheels, AFS with 9k miles
Bought for $31,000 Out the Door

Car want to trade for:
Desert Sage Metallic 2007 IS250 Auto, 18" wheels, Navi, no AFS with 36k miles

Dealer is asking $26,991(ignore price on window)

I'm going to try to get the car for $24,500 out the door or less. lol

You're buying a car with a lot more mileage but it has nav.

Hmmm...

Near 30k mile difference. That's like mileage for three years for most people (well, 2 years for SoCal'ers... ).

I would try to be "up" on the deal. You should get the car for less than the value of your trade-in.

It's difficult to sell a manual trannied Lexus, but with low mileage, you can probably sell it to someone looking for a bargain. Sell the car privately, then buy the new car with the funds.

that's 36K Miles, pretty high though compared to urs which only has 9k.
the good side is that the used one has the Nav (which does not matter to me, i dont know if u really need it or not)
if i were you, i would sell privately and go for an IS350.

I would keep your 250. It has less miles and I like Obsidian better than the Desert Sage. Plus is your 100 mile commute bumper to bumper all the way? I figure you will be in 6th gear most of the time. Also, you may get a little better gas mileage with the manual.

Several comments:

1. $24,500 OTD would reflect a price of about $22,000 before TTL. Is that even realistic?

2. 36K in one year is a LOT of miles. Not to mention that at a rate of say, 600 miles/week (estimating your work commute + general driving), the 2007 car will be out of warranty in less than six months, but the warranty on your 2008 would be good for almost a year and a half.

3. I would also assume that with such a long commute, many of those miles would be on the freeway. On the rare occasions when I did freeway driving, my 6MT got insane gas mileage. IIRC, my best was 31 MPG.

4. I drove my 6MT for a year commuting daily in San Francisco. My six mile trip generally took 35-45 minutes. I would occasionally get tired, but it wasn't THAT bad.

5. If you really want to switch, I would also recommend trying to sell the car privately. You're going to get reamed trading in such a new car.

As such, I would suggest that you keep your existing 2008 IS250 6MT.

i usualy avoid traffic when i take my mini out (6mt) when I come back from parties possibly in the late even 2 or 3 am theyre is traffic on I90 due to train construction and and sitting in bumper to bumper traffic for 45 min creeping with pretty heavy clutch for a car that size is pita i recomend you keep on looking if you will be driving through heavy *** traffic if not stick with your 6mt none nav btw the olive is ugly imo

I would keep what you have. I had to decide between an is250 6spd and a 350 auto. I chose the 350 auto and somewhat regret my decision. I miss rowing thru the gears and the sequential auto is not the same by a long shot. My commute consist of driving 15 miles round trip through city streets averaging 35-45 miles per hour with a little bit of congesition. if you are a diehard stick shift fan, dont do it, but if you don't care driving an auto....then....I still wouldn't do it :P

I thought I needed 306 horsepower, but I rarely am able to open the car up during my commute.

Funny cause..I'm trying to do the opposite. I came from a 6spd supercharged rsx type-s..and now I have a slow POS is250-AUTO. I thought i would get over the stick shift thing cause of all the commuting I now do to get to work but I would do anything to trade for a starfire pearl, black interior fully loaded 6spd transmission. too bad, so sad. good luck bro

Keep your 08. I don't like that Desert Sage Metallic color (no offense to anyone w/ that color). If you want nav, you can always go aftermarket.

Just for the record, the 6MT gets -worse- mileage than the IS250 RWD auto does...

the 6MT RWD even gets worse mileage than the AWD 250.

Modern autos are awfully efficient

I came from a non-vtec integra sedan with Jackson racing supercharger and what I was originally trying to do was purchase a starfire/black interior with 6spd manual, unfortunately I could not find one with that combo. I felt like I was downgrading in power because the is250 is 700 pounds heavier than the integra which made about the same amount of power. If I had to do it again, I would have gotten the 250 with 6spd manual. Don't get me wrong, I love my is350, but driving an auto is BORING! to me.
