Just sent my brother a text message (he owns a locksmith business). Lets see what he would charge?

I wouldnt have them cut it. It is a good blank key, if they cut it back to the original then you wasted a good blank because now you need to get a 2 instead of 1. Got to a good locksmith tell them you had your key stolen and that you need the driver, trunk and glove box key redone.

I have dealt with locksmith that are AAA authorized in the past and are professional and clean when they are done with there work.

Thanks! I just call the GF and told her to tell the service advisor we only want the remote w/ blank key. I guess I'll give my locksmith a call and see what he can do. Usually don't they require a key code to cut up a new key? Just curious if they can actually make a new key code for the trunk, gb, and door.

You got it! He does a lot of big commercial accounts during the weekdays, but does public service during the weekend. I sometimes help with estimates, but mostly I take care of his billing and payroll crap.

Okay I just talked to my brother, and he said with parts and labor it will be around $900. He said something about the locks being a high security system; so therefore he would have to order specific parts.

Keep in mind that if the "bad guy" does attempt to get into your girl's car with the valet key, the alarm on the car will go off. It will keep going off until the car is started or in "on mode".

They should provide you with a new key code when they are done.

I think i am gonna trade my car in for a camry now. I cant afford 900 to replace the keys if this happened!

SC400 might as well have the dealer do it since your GF is there. Doesnt look like too much of a savings.

Its all good, you been very helpful.

Well I just got a called from the gf, she said the new lock cylinder for all three and 2 key shank will be $210. Not bad, but she said labor was going to be $6-700. Guess I'll confirm with the locksmith and see what he says.

haha. Actually that's how my brother got started. He worked for AAA as a locksmith and learned the business really well. About 3 years ago, someone saw him with his work shirt on at a hockey game and asked him if he wanted to buyout/take over their locksmith business...so he did. He got lucky because he had a ton of customers and accounts given to him from the previous owners. Today he is makin' bank (and thinking about buying an IS-F pretty soon).

Sorry to highjack your thread SC400 408

But does anyone know if it's even possible to use the manual key in your driver's side door w/o the alarm going off? My fob battery went dead on me not too long ago, and I had to open my car with the manual (valet) key...then the freakin' alarm went off (it was soooo embarrassing )

Yup. Labor is the major cost (I've learned this by doing the billing for my brother's locksmith company).
