Default funny story with the IS

So I was dropping a friend of mine home and on the way back home, my friend warned me of a sobriety test check point. Having being bored and wanting to see what's up there, I decided to go up to the check point to see it. The state police officer pulled me over and I had a funny conversation with him.

Officer: "Hey how you doing tonight?"
Me: "Good, you?"
Officer: "Good. This is a random sobriety test check point by the State police. Just checking for people drinking and driving."
Me: "Okay." This is where I figured he'd ask me about drinking.
Officer: "Where you headed?"
Me: "Home"
Officer: "So...What year is this car?"
Me: "2007"
Officer: "it's really nice"
Me: "Yeah it's not bad, thank you"
Officer: "What is this? FWD? RWD?"
Me: "AWD"
Officer: "Wow really? Lexus is nice. How much is this?
Me: "$39,000 MSRP but I got it for $34,600"
Officer: "Oh? That's a good deal. This is nice. Got GPS and everything. Okay you head on home now. Take care"
Me: "You too!"

As I drove off, I was laughing because he didn't even pay attention to me, he just looked at the car and when I was ahead, he and his partner were just staring at my car. lol

He might not have looked like he cared about the screening, but by keeping you in conversation he wanted to see if you were slurring your speech or doing anything else that might tip him off that you've been drinking

+1. asking you if you've been drinking is just about the most stupid question a cop can ask. If he engages in you in conversation, he's got a much better chance of gauging your sobriety. No offense to your car intended

yah my uncle is a cop they try to make you talk as much as they can to see if they can smell it on you or if you have a slur or take too long to answer a question. Its all within the test

One time I was pulled over the officer stated, "You Were Swerving For Three Miles," I then stated, "I'm Driving?" Actually, drinking and riving is a serious matter and I have known innocent people killed by a intoxicated driver. My sister was hit head on by a drunk in 2001 and the impact was over 100mph. He crossed the median in a new blazer and hit her small Pontiac Sunfire. Luckily airbags, seatbelts and crumple zones in both vehicles contributed to their safety.

The same thing happened to me in California but I was on my Harley. I got hit by another bike that was lane splitting and when CHP came to see if we were ok all they did was talk about how it was a tragedy that such a nice bike was wrecked. Then the cop and I talked about how he had the exact same bike I did but in a different color. Cop are not bad guys as long as that aren't after you.

Yup, getting you relaxed talking lets him smell your breath etc.

Just for fun:

I know some good cops but then there are A holes as well. Just like in many professions. Hopefully you don't encounter the A holes too often.

well i guess here in MA, it's different for us. most if not all state cops are jerks but the fact this one was so nice just made my night. these cops are aggressive. they usually have one guy hidden somewhere on the highway to guage your speed then they call a buddy down the road to pull you over. sometimes they'll chase you. other times if they're ahead of you, they just pull over, get out of the car and stand IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY to point for you to pull over.

but yeah drunk drivers are dangerous. i remember watching one guy speed around swerving and drove on the grass off the side of the road, grinded the guardrail and his muffler came loose. Only then to swerve to the right to exit from the left lane. this is a 3 lane road without signalling or any hesitation.

I've been pulled over a few times while drinking...but NOT too much of course. I KNOW when I shouldn't be driving when I drink. Anyways...When I got pulled over a few times after some drinks I'm usually honest about it and say Yes, I've had a 2/3 drinks within 2 hours. Most of the time they are cool unless they KNOW you're tanked and can't drive. More honest you are the less hassle it will be for the both of you...
