i once talked to the head tech at my dealership, and he said the cause for the irregular wear was:
1) the angle at which the tire sits, at sharp turns
2) the driver must accelerate alot on the highway on-ramps
he said that it happens alot to the IS, especially the 350s

2. No, this would wear the outer tread blocks, not the inside edge. AMHIK.

Hi DevJ,
Would you mind tell me how much dealer charged you for the new tires, installation and alignment?
And they used inside or outside mount to balance the wheel?
Can anyone tell me what's the different between inside/outside lead wheel balance, please?
Because I see some the technician stick the lead on the inside surface of the wheel and some put it on the lip of the wheel.
Thanks.

Within standards does not mean optimum, it just means within tolerance. I wore out a set of rear tires in 6k miles with the rear alignment "within tolerances" on my Supra. That's when I came up with the "lance alignment."
1. Of course, this is obvious.

Alignment Problem
This is definetly irregular tire wear caused by an alignment problem. It sounds like the majority of IS's have this problem when new, I just discovered inside wear on my IS even thou the steering wheel is still centered, the car does not pull to the side. I suspect this is a problem with most IS's from the factory. Newport Lexus posts a warning on thier new IS's that you may experience tire tread life less than 15,000 miles.

1. The toe is off. Camber is not adjustable on these cars.
2. Low profile tires are good enough for 33k miles (still quite legal) - that's what I got on my original Potenza RE050s. Assuming you keep them properly inflated and don't have bad alignment.
3. A blowout on either end of the car can cause an accident at highway speeds. I disagree about rear being worse than front - I've had lots of rear tire issues that didn't result in an accident, but front tire issues immediately prevent the driver from safely braking.
4. The tires in the pic are unsafe, but in the US they're technically not illegal. I wore out the outer tread blocks on my RE050s primarily because there is so little camber on the ISx50. I could have used another half degree to make the tires last longer for sure.

LowBuxRacer, What is the highest mileage you have got from front tires on a
2IS?? I usually get 30,000 with Z rated tires on several diff cars.

I've got anywhere from 27k to 39k on my Supra with Bridgestone S-02s, S-03s, and Pilot Sport MXX3s.
