I have 15% tint on the rear window. its difficult to see through the rear view mirror with the dimming feature. Is there any way to turn off the auto dimming feature on the rear view mirror permanently? I tried to play with it but no luck. Everytime I restart the car the dimming comes back, its just inconvenient to turn it off every time I drive at night.

I have something like 20% tint on the back. While it is dark, the auto dimming function rarely activates because the tint cuts down so much of the light to begin with.

I never messed with it but I know in previous cars I had a button on the mirror to turn on and off?

You just have to press Auto every time. I know how annoying it is.

I researched this for my 5% tint. Doesn't seem to be a preference Lexus can shut off permanently either.

Or put a small piece of black tape over the sensor at the front (to the side of the green power light)

LOL take off the DARK **** TINT then maybe you can SEE when your reversing so you dont run some old lady over in a parking lot

I would think that would make it worse. The mirror would see blackness in front and really dim the mirror whenever any light was sensed from the rear.

That sounds like it would work.

There are actually 2 sensors that help activate the dimming feature, there's
a sensor in front (where the auto button is) and a sensor in the back of the
mirror (look for a hole off center). If the front sensor picks up more light
than the sensor in the back of the mirror, it will start to dim. I found this
by accident when putting up a front sun shade, the mirrors started to dim,
the shade blocked light from the sensor on the back side.

Yeah--covering up the sensor on the back of the mirror may darken it.

I think i had my backs and fronts mixed up. Covering the sensor on the front of the mirror (the one that looks out the back of the car), would keep it from dimming.
