Going to buy a 06 IS
Hey guys. I have fallen in love with a 06 IS250 black, loaded with 53k miles. The original owner is asking 23k for it. It that a fair price? These cars are few and far between in Houston from what I have found.
Any thing I need to watch out for? How long to brakes and the auto trans typically last?

53000 miles is a lot. Your basic warranty is already up.

I see another member has a car for sale. if it has the options you are looking for with a fraction of the miles for a few thousand more I would consider this IMO.
Good luck on your decision! Post us some pics when you get your car

The car has a extended warranty from lexus.
My dad and uncle have both driven Lexus for years and only trouble they have given them is dead batteries.
Are they autos in this model car reliable? How long to rotors and pads last before they need to be replaced?
Who is the other member that has the car for sale? I am only looking in Texas.

I think he is out of CA per his sig.
I think the car you are looking at is good if it has extended warranty from Lexus. the rotors and the pads may have been replaced on the car already. Hard to tell as it will very between drivers. I would say 40k+ is safe for the rotor if not longer. I think the OEM pads are lasing around 30k on average from what other members have posted. If they are giving it an extended warranty they the pads and brakes need to be with in spec/tolerance.
looks like its a car worth getting IMO.

I am a fairly comptent mechanic. I have done several brake jobs on Ford and Chevy trucks. Are the brakes on the IS something I can do myself? I enjoy doing it and know it was done right.

I checked KBB using a Houston area ZIP, assumed the car in question was an automatic, and included your listed mileage and the options of Luxury package, Navigation, Mark Levinson, Intuitive Parking Assist, premium wheels, and rear spoiler (which I believe pretty well represents "loaded" for 2006) and the highest value (for Excellent*) was $22,595 for a private party sale.
Also, please by all means validate the above number yourself. You'd do well to check Edmunds too.
In any case, it appears you may have room to negotiate, and even more room if the car has less options than I entered.
*KBB also notes that less than 5% of all used vehicles are Excellent

Yeah what does loaded mean? Does it have navigation?
Overall I think you're in the right pricing ballpark for the car and a Lexus warranty.
For the service stuff, you can always ask for a service history from the seller to find out when he last changed the brakes, etc etc...
