Default Going on a road trip this summer... what should i check?

So I'm the proud owner of a 2006 IS350 with 40k miles. Up until this very moment, the only thing i've ever done are oil changes and car washes (all through the dealership). I also had the brake tsp done at 25k miles.

Last time I went, they said that there was uneven wear on the front tires, but back tires seem ok.

My questions:
What should I check/have checked prior to my trip?

Tire questions:
1) Should i replace my tires before my 3k mile road trip this summer?
2) Should I replace just the fronts? Or both?
3) If I buy tires, I plan on just going to costco and getting some. I have 17" OEM wheels, and these are my options: Which do you guys recommend?

I had no idea their was an IS305 (LOL). As for checking things for your road trip, how many miles on your tires? I would imagine they would not be OEM in if you have 40k. If under 15k or 20k, leave the fronts on to get some more wear out of them unless the alignment is so off that their are literally uneven spots which I doubt. When you replace the fronts, I would match the rears with the same tire for the same tread pattern which will enhance safety and safety is key with tires. I have done many 3-5k road trips and I simply wash the car out of state and get an oil change on the trip for good measure. Enjoy the road trip!!![/QUOTE]

Fixed :P

They are OEM tires... the backs still have a lot of tread left, and the fronts are wearing thin on the inside. I live in san diego, so weather is not bad... ever, and the road trip is in the summer in good weather. Ideally I would like to use these tires and then change them after the trip... but I really don't want to have my tire blow out or something and ruin everything :X

Why are you being so cheap?

You Drive a 40k car and want to risk having something you can fix ahead of the time ruin your trip.

Just spend the 1000 bucks and get 4 new tires and go on the road with peace of mind, I just cant stand people who buy cars that they cannot afford the maintenance on them!

I have to say I am impressed that you were able to obtain 40k on stock tires. You must drive really well? I would venture to say, replace them and have your alignment done as well. You can never put a price on safety and I see tires blow-out weekly on cars and trucks all over Chicago highways. Sometimes, the vehicles end up destroying the rim(s) and hit the median wall on highways as a result. Play it safe Jewel.

Road trip from San Diego to vegas, to zion national park, to salt lake city, to yellowstone and back

The trip is going to cost me around 3k... i was hoping to put off the tires till afterwards since it would cost ~1k to put them on =/

guess it's better to be safe than sorry...

so which tires would you guys buy?

read the reviews on www.tirerack.com.

they'll also help you narrow down your choices according to your needs.

they categorize all the tires into different sets, such as performance summer tires and passenger touring tires. if you want longevity and the quiet comfort of a highway cruiser then stick to the grand touring tires and choose one that fits your bill (and your wallet).

So you drive a $40k Car but 1k for tires is to much. Wow in that case don't Ever own a BMW. I just had to do my tires on my 07 X5 and those are the factory 20's and that cost me around 2200 it was about 1800 just for tires!

If the rears are good then don't replace them. Replace the fronts first since it's not wearing out evenly, then get an alignment. My front stocks are getting bald on the outer sides. I have 28k miles on my car and the rears are perfectly fine. Time for me to replace the fronts too!

IMO, I'd just replace all 4 for peace of mind. I mean you're going on a 3000 mile trip, not 30. Plus, you've put 40k miles on your OEMs so regardless if the rears are still "good", just get it done in one shot.

I replaced mine at 35k with Goodyear F1 AS from Tirerack for $650. The Goodyear's are rated to be pretty good. Plus, it's a lot cheaper than the $1000 that u were expecting...

I would replace all four tires before the road trip just to be safe. I mean your stock tires alrdy have 40k on them, you don't want trouble in the middle of a road trip.
