Default JL 12W3 vs. Kicker Solo-Baric 10" L5

Need an opinion based on experience. I have for years owned JL subs (12W0, 12W3) in my old car and have been very pleased. I am planning on putting a sub in my IS. A coworker of mine has been telling me to get a 10" Kicker, Solo-Baric L5. he said the box will be much smaller and it'll be louder.

Anyone have an opinion on this based on experience? I generally listen to hip-hop and I like deep bass. Should I stick with the JL 12"? The 12" Kicker is too much power, more than I'll need. I don't like bass that can be heard a block away. If i do stay with JL, it'll prob be the 12W3.

another quick question, ive read some on these boards that there is a good amount of sound dampening. i used to own a 2002 altima..am i really going to notice the sub being that much quieter?

Stick with the 12 or 8's. 10s have not been known to be good sounding IMO. 8 give you a nice tight bass. 12's give you a loud bass. 10 are a cross between the 2 but they dont respond as well as a 12 or 8. IMO I love the solobaric subs.

Im about to put a 10" Kicker L7 in my IS.. it came out of my GS, and it sounded excellent in that car. As long as you match your amp to your sub, you'll be good.

when are you going to post us some pics with those springs on your car Its TIME Ron for another photo shoot! I want to see how they turned out on your car!

back to the OP...Like i said earlier JL Audio. Only subs i never had troubles with in the past. Had 3 10w6 subs in the one box years ago and they hit so hard. I havent purchased any of that stuff in years so not sure but i do know they dont make that sub anymore and its a shame. If you can find these used in good condition go for them

You honestly cant go wrong with either. The L5's with the right power and enclosure will get louder then the W3's, but you cant beat JL sound quality.

im not going to pay for a photoshoot yet. i really wanna do a professional one. but right now im waiting for the OEM rear gfx for the rear bumper. im cutting the bumper soon so i can weld powercoated gloss black quads on the Lexus hks. =] oh yess. i just don't know what to do about the muffler, if i should leave it chrome or paint it also. plus javy's gonna help me paint my rear emblems black as well.

No just generally louder. If you want deeper you'll hafta step up to a 12" or larger. Also a sealed enclosure will sound deeper than a ported enclosure.
