I'd definitely hose it down. I've washed my car once in the past 6 months, and it was because I had to drive through a blizzard where they put that rock/salt de-icing crap all over the road. There was salt and grit all over my car, so I gave it a good hosing down when I got home (where it was raining, by the way - I'm sure my neighbors thought I was crazy... "what the hell is this guy doing washing his car in the rain??? ) I washed it for two reasons - 1) to rinse away the grit before I rubbed a sponge or cloth on my paint to clean it, (read: to prevent swirls introduced in washing/cleaning) and 2) to get the salt off my car so it doesn't corrode any of the undercarriage. That's literally the only time I have had a need to 'wash' my car with soap and water for over 7 months.

So I finally figured out what your little green and yellow feather is. I guess i am late on the whole JDM thing. I kept seeing it around here in the metroplex on rice-burners so I knew it was some JDM thing. I finally asked this dude with a standard ricerburner civic with fart can exhaust what it meant and he told me "wakabe" or however you spell it. It's kind of funny now that I know what it means.

I have always hand washed all my cars, this IS is no different. That way you can keep a close eye on what is happening to your cars finish. (scratches, paint chips etc.) and take care of them ASAP! I'm going to keep this car a long time and I want to keep her looking her best!

i try to wash at home as much as possible. i'm away at college, so every weekend i go home i handwash her, (but that's not often enough) ... but come may 1, that's all gonna change. she will be garage kept and handwashed at least once a week.

Only handwash!! So far only needed to wash twice in 6 months. But I do a variety of detailing stuff everyday to make sure it's always lookin good. I only use 100% cotton towels on exterior. Separate towels for windows, rims, interior. I currently use Griots products. Most of them work pretty well. But I should add that I do not usually drive the Lexus when it rains.

I do it at home (usually). I use Meguiar's wheel cleaner to get the brake dust off. Then, I use a Mr. Clean car wash system. I use a soft RV brush for the soap stage and the de-ionized rinse means no wiping (i.e. no scratches) to get the water off. Works great on my silver IS and just OK on my wife's black Accord.
