If you felt an E46 M3 was too much car for you then no question stick to the IS350... the IS-F has over 80 -more- horsepower than the E46 M3 did.... the IS350 loses less than 30 hp to the M3, and is still plenty quick.
DO get the Mark Levinson stereo... though I'm not much of a fan of recommending the factory nav system (you can get one independent of the otherr- though you'll need both if you want to watch movies while driving... also not something I'm big on)

Get the IS350. I drove the IS-F yesterday and was not excited enough to hand over my credit card and personal check. It is a lot of extra money for not that much more car honestly.

Definetly a IS350 with the works and the ML audio. I was in a similar predicament over an AMG but realized I am not in that much need of the speed but want the sucker to go when I say so...IS350 is the way to go.

If you have the money, and want a shiiiiiit load of power under the hood, then go with the IS-F, but to me you seem like you'd be happy with spending less for a car thats still pretty quick and a lot of fun. The IS-F, power and performance wise, is like BMW's M3, the 350 would be like a BMW's 335i.

It boils down to your typical commute at a stop light. I own a own a 350... plain and simple it is nice to take off on a light... and when ego sets in... be a bit devious and throw on the ECT Power... a nice extra punch ... Example: I am enjoying spring break for the kiddies... I really appreciate the "3" before my fifty in mornings and early evenings. I would feel cheated owning an "F" cause i couldn't open her up like she should be regularly for how much i would pay. My commute is city traffic, not highway. I test drove the 350 BEFORE I drove the 250... after that it was like Honey Nut Cherio's vs. Cherios to me; gotta go with the flavor too. I don't need the Premium Honey Nut Cherios with the numbered collector box and secret decoder ring.
Never mind you could still roll off the red light next to an "M" or an "AMG" and compete if not beat... 500 feet later you are at the next red light anyway.

This may have changed in the last 6 months, but I doubt it.
You can check the big thread on what people have been paying to get an idea, but unless you're in a very uncompetitive area there's folks finding deals in the 500-1k over invoice range nowadays.
My own advice, if you're not in a huge hurry, is find a dealer willing to special order -exactly- what you want if it's not readily available, and don't pay extra for the privilege either. It'll take 2-3 months, but you'll get it the way you want it.

I ended up getting the IS350 in my sig (used with 7K miles) and picked it up for just under $10K off of what a 'new' would have run at MSRP. I've seen more than a few like that on auto-trader over the last few months, this was just the first one to show up anywhere near 'local'.
I saw one or two used Sport Pkgs in So. Cal with low miles, but by the time I called they were gone (and in one case it was not even a Sport pkg at all).

I have the 350. Thought seriously about trading for -F. Reasons I didn't... Couldn't justify additional 25K for 100hp
Gas mileage (I get around 30mpg on highway and 22 to 25 in town)
Other than that, I would have ponied up in a heartbeat or (throttle blip )
