Exclamation Does Your IS Hydro Plane In The Rain

Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else has this problem. I have sports suspension on my IS, not sure if that's the reason, but I just drove about 600 miles and every time it'd rain I'd have to drive 55mph-60mph instead of 80+ on the highway. Would something like adding mud guards do the trick? or is this someting I just have to live with.

Thanks

interesting?? what tires do you have on the 18" rims? I have about 16k miles on the OEM potenza and i never had any issues with mine. Sounds like the tires to me but hard to say. Can you take some pics and post for all of us to see what they look like. How many miles on them? i see you have an 08 but just curious.

I'll post pics as soon as I can find my camera in my boxes of stuff, just moved from Atlanta back to Miami. The car has about 3000 miles only, they're the BRIDGESTONE TURANZA ER33's 225 in the front and 255s in the back.

Post the pics but i am going to say that many on here are not happy with the Turanza. I have a different tire from the factory on my car. All i can say is that on my Acura TL they where terrible tires and i changed them out.

I am not sure what the dealer will do at this point but some places like Discount tire just may give you a credit and resell the tires to someone that wants them. another option is to contact Bridgestone and see if they will swap for another brand of tire. The Potenza i think are a much better tire.

Hope this is of help!

My car has for periods of time. Driving too fast in the rain will usually do that.

My IS feels pretty planted in the wet. Then again, I'm not stupid enough to drive 80+ when it's raining. And how the heck would mud guards help with hydroplaneing? They're called "mud gaurds" for a reason.

No matter what, you'll hydra plane going over a puddle of water in highway speeds. I don't think small puddles of water will make your car hydro plane except bigger ones. Happened to me a couple times going 60-65 during rain. No big deal. Just keep the wheel straight and don't try to steering going into a puddle.

tire threads, tire pressure can play factors into hydroplaning

but mudguards are totally irreverent to this issue...

yeah, going 80+ in the rain is never a good idea, lexus or not

however there have been many complaints about the turanzas and their poor driving quality, if i were you i'd try swapping tires for a better pair..

I hate to say this but cars like ours with low-pro tires are more prone to hydro-plane. the lower the profile the more likeliness it will happen. Since we run 40 series tires we are kind of at the mercy of the water. Just drive little slower

Why you ask, well the more tread you put on the ground the faster it needs to shed the excess water. Unfortunately it doesnt shed it fast enough. that is why cars with 65/75 series tires do not hydro as easy because they have less foot print to shed the water and the water exits faster.

Thus is why snow tires are taller then our OEM tires.
