Default RX350 vs. IS350 mpg

I noticed that my wife's car gets 21 mpg on average. My IS350 only pulls 17 on a good day lately. Does anyone know why this is? They do have the same engine right? The SUV is heavier, right?

Actually the RX uses the 2GR-FE engine rated at 268hp and which doesn't have direct injection. The IS350 however has the 2GR-FSE engine which has both port and direct injection and is rated at 306hp.

and might be due to driving style... i think mentally a person in a sports sedan will drive more aggressively than a person in a suv

i make 21.5 mpg 100% city, its all driving style. My biggest piece of advice is to use Current MPG as your active display, make it a game to maximize your mileage. You will easily learn the habits and throttle positions to give you the best mpg possible

Driving style - I doubt your wife stomps it in the corner in the RX just to see the TCS go nuts =)

Not saying that you do, but yeah.

Yep it's all about the driving style... I primarily drive the RX350 during weekdays and I drive it more aggressive than other SUV drivers and usually get 16-17 MPG in mostly stop and go city driving. My wife drives the IS350 on the weekdays and with her mostly conservative driving she gets mostly 18-19 MPG in the city. Of course, when I get my hands on the IS350, you can count on the MPG dropping considerably...

4tehnguyen is right, I use the current mpg display the most now and my mpg went from 17-17.5 to 19-20 mpg, 90 percent city driving too. I guess by having the display on and having to pay close to 4 bucks a gallon for **** water 91 cali gas, it's forcing me to ease up on my driving style. I say whatever works

I think not only the style of driving... also the weight... A RX should be heavier than a IS...

Yeah drive like a normal person in the IS and you'll get 21 - 23 mpg in mixed city/highway conditions.

Change it to the thermometer. Obsessing over fuel mileage is the game played by Prius owners.
