Dealer left off oil cap
I took my car to the dealer last week for an oil change. Then yesterday the Check VSC warning came on along with the check engine light and the skidding car light. From reading other posts here, I thought it was a loose gas cap and it would go away in a few days.
So I just opened the hood and the oil cap was not on! I am going to take it back and have them check everything. But I thought I'd post here too. I am wondering if this can cause any permanent damage? Could small particles have gotten into the oil? And would it damage my engine?

Just make sure the oil level is ok or if any amount was lost. read the dipstick. Saddly, this is common with oil change places and you caught this quickly so I doubt any major damage occured if any. Let the dealer re-do the whole oil change with complimentary cleaning up of the split oil i the engine bay. I would have them clean the whole car out of good measure.

M1sTa801, I don't understand what you're trying to say?
Yes, it is the person that changed my oil that left off the cap. That person works for the dealership. The dealership is responsible for any errors that he makes. Am I missing something?

If you didn't lose any oil, and it's unlikely that you did, then it is doubtful that you will experience any problems as a result of them leaving the cap off.

Watertown Lexus.
They also did the brake pad and dash rattle tsib's without giving me any hassles. Though they washed the car when I specifically told them not to and it said NO WASH on the paperwork.

Don't think we need to turn this thread into a "I am right and you are wrong"
he simply asked if it would cause major damage.
To the original post, having oil cap off for short amount of time shouldn't of caused any damage, but I would suggest having the dealer check it just in case.

Doesn't matter. If you drop off your car "in trust" of the service and pay the $$$ for it, you should expect nothing but the best results. Oil changing should be second nature to the service crew. They should know the process like the back of their hand.
