gas tank issue
i have an 07 IS350. the manual and internet sites say it has a 17.1 gallon gas tank. i picked the car up in january with 17000 miles on it. i guess they filled the tank cause it said 335 estimated miles left to go. now everytime i go fill the tank up it never takes more than 14.8 gallons to fill the tank. last night it was down to 8 miles left of gas and i filled it up and only put about 14.8 gallons in the tank. also when i do fill the tank up it always says i can only drive for an esimated 270 miles. i dont know if its my tank sensor or maybe gas stations cut it off after a certain amount of money. the thing is my actual gas gauge always go up past the F when i put only 14 gallons of gas in. anyone have any light to shed on my problem? i would rather fill it up to 330 miles worth of gas than going in every 250-270 miles.

The IS fuel gauge is extremely conservative. Even when you get to 0 there is about 2 gallons left. That is the way the car is. I can't imagine a dealer fixing this "issue" for you since (cliche alert) "they are all like that."
That being said, if you are averaging 20 mpg in a 350 it sounds like you are fairly aggressive in your driving habits or drive a lot of city. This is not unprecedented. If you want to drive past the indicated 0 miles left range and risk running completely out of gas, that is up to you. Besides, it's better to not drain the gas tank bone dry.
For more info try searching "how far have you gone" or something like that. There are several threads on this topic.

2 gallons on reserve on empty, some saftey issue. everytime i fill up its around 14-15 gallons. Your MPG and AVG MPG has decreased, change your driving habits and you will see an increase in range APPOX and MPG. THis is normal the computer recalculates the distance capable with the gas amount. People who drive hard all the time, barely see 300.
My first tank lasted 380 during break in, After break in 300- 318, now 375 avg. Drive slower and accelerate slowly, you'll see numbers increase! some people get over 400 which is crazy i think but possible( highway)

Actually it's Cal Golden Bears, not Chitown, but it's appreciated.
Hoping to crack 450 tonight - my tank average as calculated by the lying computer is 30.9 right now. Avatar updated.
BTW, it's more for kicks than anything else. The mileage isn't a huge concern for me at this point - I spend more on mods anyways.

Actually mine was at 444 when I filled up this morning. The hose was not working right and never "clicked" thus I had gas overflow on to the side of my 350 and ground. When I looked at the range it said 444. The majority of the time it says around 430+ when I fill up. I do 90%-95% highway driving for a total of 92 miles each day.

I've gone well over 400 miles in my 350 a few times:
I've also broken 30 mpg a few times too. It's possible for sure. I've never put even 16 gallons in the tank. Despite the average speeds shown above, this is what the gauges looked like most of the time - the averages got hurt by construction zones with one lane and very slow trucks.
