wow man that sucks, but i agrree with everyone. aftermarket wheels, possibly without hub centric rings, aftermarket lug nuts, all point to someone's fault, but not lexus'.
did you know for example, that with aftermarket wheels and lug nuts, you're supposed to re check torque on them after 100 miles of last installation? if you dont do that, you're risking something like what just happened...

Centric Hubs - I bet you didn't have them. Also aftermarket wheels. Each wheel style will use a certain lug nut. If you went to your local automotive store to get lugs; you may have chosen the wrong ones. If they were supplied with the wheels then you may have a case with what ever company you got the wheels from. If you don't have centric hubs I'd ask some questions about why they were not supplied with the wheel or an option at the sale of you new wheels. Your better off going this route if your tring to get paid for your prolbems. Leave Lexus out of it.

Little more info would be great.

Sorry this happened, but I have to agree with the above statement.

Lost case, don't waste your time. You got aftermarket wheels and it wasn't Lexus that installed for you

That was the longest explanation I have ever read in my entire life. Might as well have included your taco order details, lol jk. But I am inclined to agree with everybody else. Just as the dealer has to prove to you that any problem caused was by an aftermarket part, the burden is also on you to prove that it wasn't.

First and foremost, I'm happy to hear that you're o.k.

Second, I am not technologically savvy, and therefore I cannot comment on the mechanics of the wheel/axle relationship. Have you hired a lawyer for this situation?

some do require they remove the rims from the car.

But i do see the aftermarket rims and i dont think this will go very far. doesnt seem like you have much damage to your car and everyone was safe. my guess is you will be out the repair or a very long fight that may go no where.

best of luck in a speedy recovery!

Has Lexus even determined what failed? what caused it to fail? and who they think should pay for it? What are you going to court for? Repair/Replacement of the car or "emotional trauma" for having your car break down on the freeway? If it's the latter don't forget to sue the cop for yelling at you.

im also leaning towards improperly torqued lugs. Yes improper hubcentric rings can cause vibrations but not to the severity to break the 5 studs on the wheel

My thought's exactly. You modified the car, if you do indeed go to court, Lexus is going to go on and on about how you used parts that were not manufactured or designed by Lexus for use on this car. What happened definitely sucks, but I dont think you have much of a case.

damn, terrible to see that happen to you bro. Glad everybody was okay cause that could of got ugly very fast. Have you talked to lexus before hand? I know one thing about lawyers and that is they close deals. Any chance of lexus taking responsibility for this matter even if you don't have the original OEM wheels is out the window. Its going to be an ugly fight and not worth it in the long run. Just be glad that your alive.

But good luck anyways.
