I don't have a problem with the clips for the side covers... its the friggin middle cover. When I pulled it off the first time the clip that screws in underneath the cover was already broken from when the dealership changed my oil, screw fell out in the engine bay, not happy... oh well I found that without covers is much sexier, especially with a Joe-Z pipe....and the covers dont do jack **** but possibly cause the motor to run hotter.

I agree they are a PIA, but I said screw it and took all of my engine covers off. It looks hotter anyway. The only cover that is appealing to me is the middle cover with the Lexus "L" logo on it.

when I saw the topic, I though you meant the "engine" engine cover, the silver one. After I read the whole thread, I think you meant those black one now.
I personally never have any problem with any of them. Just do it slowly, take you time. I took them out twice for air filter maintenances already. Never break one. What I did is, use a flat surface, I use my wood work table that sit in my garage. Just push it down strange, and it will pop right back up, so far I haven't break any of them yet.

While placing an order I bought 6 from Sewell to have on hand because I kept screwing them up too.I now know the best technique for me.I switched out the '06 type for the newer type.
I use a small screwdriver to pry up the middle rather than push down.Works for me.I do have 6 on hand just in case.

I've had plenty experience with both clips from 06-08..
They are really easy.. the 06' is a simple push down to release and before you re-install them you just re-set them by pushing them back upwards..
the 07-08's are even easier... I STRONGLY recommend using a super mini flat head screw driver to lift the inner pin up and then the rest is cake from there..

My experience as well. No need for pliers, screwdrivers, or force -- as it shows in the manual, just grab the prongs and pull them apart with your fingers, and the plunger pops back up. I broke one before I figured out how they work; since then I've had mine out many times and never broken another.
